She accepted it just like that? Ye Xiaozu never expected that Elaine Wu would easily agree to it. He initially thought that she would refuse and use her own family as a bargaining chip to keep their engagement going. Or worse, force him to set their wedding date.
"What?" Elaine Wu raised a brow at him, noticing his blank stare.
"You… you're okay with it?" He questioned.
Elaine shrugged and cupped her chin lazily as she stared out the glass window. Was he expecting that she would throw a fit and be dramatic over such a thing? If he didn't want to marry her anymore, that's fine. Why would she make it hard for him anyway?
"Yeah… why would I want to be with a person who's obviously not into me?" She replied.
"Then why did you agree to such arrangements?" Ye Xiaozu narrowed his eyes on her. So that meant he was worried about nothing? Well, he thought that this was better than trying to deal with an overly emotional woman. If that was the case, then he would have a hard time pacifying her.
"Don't overthink, Ye Xiaozu. I only agreed because my parents asked me to. But since you don't want this anymore, perhaps they'll allow me to do what I want from now on." Elaine Wu explained. "It wasn't like I wanted to be here anyway. We haven't had heard from you since you went back to Shenzhen, so obviously, my family sent me here to check on you."
Ye Xiaozu scoffed at that. Why did it sound like they were treating him like a kid? He certainly didn't appreciate Elaine's family keeping tabs on him when they weren't even married yet.
"Don't worry about how to break the news to my family. Let me do the honors." Elaine winked at him. "I'll tell them it's my decision, not yours."
"Why would you do that for me?" Ye Xiaozu couldn't understand. If she was another woman, Ye Xiaozu had no doubt that she would've already tried to slap him instead of helping him.
Elaine Wu hummed.
"Think about it. If they found out that you're the one who called it quits, my family might have stopped the partnership we have with your company. But if it was me who ditched you, they would understand and would try to compensate you for the trouble I caused."
Ye Xiaozu's jaws dropped in disbelief.
"Elaine Wu, you are one odd woman." He muttered.
Elaine Wu giggled at that and grinned at him. "I guess I'm one of a kind, don't you think?"
Ye Xiaozu's lips thinned but he couldn't agree more. He was fortunate that Elaine Wu was agreeable and understanding. One less headache for him anyway.
"So… what do you plan to do now?" He asked curiously.
Elaine hummed and finished her smoothie before taking a bite from the slice of cake Ye Xiaozu bought for her.
Actually, she was kinda hoping she would be able to meet Lu Tianxin and Tang Moyu soon. She thought that they were nice people to help a stranger like her and didn't ask anything in return.
If there would be a chance to meet them again, she wanted to make friends with them. Perhaps, there was more to see and to know about Shenzhen than what she'd read from travel guides and articles.
"Fine, but don't cause trouble while you are here." He cannot look after her while he was busy at Ye Corporation anyway. "Call me if you need anything and I'll ask my assistant to help you with it."
Elaine Wu rolled her eyes.
"Then might as well give me your assistant's number."
After agreeing to their newest arrangement, Elaine promised that she would still help him keep the partnership Ye Corporation had with her family, because no doubt if Ye Xiaozu's relatives sniffed that it was him who wanted to end the engagement, they would cause trouble for him.
Just as they were about to leave the shopping mall, they stumbled and met Lu Tianxin with her son in tow. She was also accompanied by Gu Yuyao and the Tang twins, who decided to tag along with their aunt for shopping.
Lu Tianxin's face turned pale so fast, it made Ye Xiaozu wonder if she was going to faint on the spot.
"Miss Lu! Wow, what a coincidence! I didn't know I would meet you here! Is Miss Tang with you?" Elaine said excitedly as she ran towards Lu Tianxin and took her hands in hers. Lu Tianxin stood there in shock, looking at the two of them.
Ye Xiaozu frowned and turned to question Elaine Wu. "You know each other?"
Even Gu Yuyao's curiosity was piqued by it. She could guess who this woman was to Ye Xiaozu, and perhaps, Lu Tianxin was also aware of it and that's why she had such a reaction upon seeing the two together.
"You know our Mommy?" Little Star, who was holding Gu Yuyao's hand asked the foreigner with a finger on her chin as she thought of how popular their Mommy was, even strangers knew about her.
Elaine Wu turned her head to see who it was and immediately fell in love at first sight upon seeing Little Star. The girl had her hair pinned up in twin pigtails with the tips curling at the ends. She was wearing a light pink dress and holding a white bunny doll on her right arm.
"Wahhh!! Such a cutie!" Elaine exclaimed before pulling out her phone. "Can I get your picture please?"
Little Star shook her head before hiding half of her body behind her Auntie Yaoyao's leg.
"Mommy said we shouldn't talk to strangers."
