Chapter 467 Ying's Confrontation

***************

CHAPTER 467

Slowly, Gao Yuemi raised her eyes, meeting Zheng Ying's piercing gaze. There was a pause, so long it felt like time itself had stopped.

The longer they stared at each other, the faster Zheng Ying's chest rose and fell.

Howbeit, Gao Yuemi's lips pulled back revealing a sinister smile as she gently placed the magazine in her other hand beside her.

"You!" Zheng Ying spat out, her fingers trembling with suppressed rage. "Is it true?" she asked again.

"I am afraid if you are going to be throwing accusations all around, you may have to be specific, don't you think, Zheng Ying?"

Watching her feign ignorance only heightened Zheng Ying's rage. Balling her hand into fists at her side, she grunted and took a step forward.

"Did you use me? All those promises, all those plans, were they just a charade?"

Gao Yuemi took a sip of her wine, letting the question linger. Then, with deliberate slowness, she set her glass down and locked eyes with Zheng Ying. "Ah...Zheng Ying. Always so quick to jump to conclusions."

"Don't play games with me, Yuemi. Did you or did you not deceive me?"

Rather than answering her, Gao Yuemi's smile broadened. "Deceive you? What are you on about?"

"Everything… this whole rickety plan of yours to lie to Xueyi about the paternity of my son and even sabotage Andromeda, everything! It was all a part of your scheme," Zheng Ying bellowed.

"Scheme?" Gao Yuemi scoffed and rose to her feet, maintaining her elegance. "My scheme you say?"

She tsked at her, taking another step forward, her eyes never leaving her prey.

"No, Ying. It was all your doing. I wasn't the one who lied to Liu Xueyi nor was I the one that planned to roughen Andromeda up and set her up to make her fall out of favour with Liu Xueyi. Those were all your doing."

Zheng Ying parted her lips, ready to refute those words, but everything changed and she found herself unable to retort.

All Gao Yuemi had said was true. Yes, it wasn't her plan to begin with but she did do it all by herself. There was no proper way to tie Goa Yuemi to this.

"You… You conniving bitch! It was you who was the mastermind."

"And so? Is this how you bite the hand that fed you? Where is your appreciation? You did not seem to mind when I was doing all of these for you to get your son a father and a good enough inheritance as well as Liu Xueyi's body, did you?"

Zheng Ying bit down hard on her lower lip.

"No. You didn't. Why have you turned to bite me when all I did, I did for your own good?"

Zheng Ying snapped her head up, letting her eyes hold her. "Tsk. My own good?" Zheng Ying's eyes blazed with untold fury.

Did she just hear Gao Yuemi say it was for her own good? Was it also for her own good that made her try to use Liu Xiao Xin against Andromeda?

No… It wasn't.

She failed there to find a puppet but she on the other hand became the used toy for her to achieve her means.

"You little liar. Was it for my own good that you set me up six years back?" Zheng Ying lashed out, her anger surging inside her.

"How dare you be so cruel? I thought we were friends but was it all a lie? How dare you ruin my happiness?!"

The living room fell silent, save for the heavy breaths coming from Zheng Ying as she glared at Gao Yuemi whose facial expression did not seem to carry any emotion and remained stoic.

Suddenly, with a chuckle that resonated with malevolence, Gao Yuemi responded, "Oh, Ying, always the naive one. Did you really think our bond meant anything?"

"What?"

"How hard it is to act and pretend to show care. If only you knew how much I detested the words coming out of your mouth about having Liu Xueyi," Gao Yuemi revealed.

The sting of the betrayal was too palpable, almost like a physical blow to Zheng Ying's unprepared heart.

Even though Liu Xueyi and Andromeda had spoken and explained things to her, she wished to test out the truth.

A big part of her wanted to confirm with her own ears from the horse's mouth. "How could you, Yuemi? I trusted you."

"Trust?" Gao Yuemi chuckled, her laughter echoing eerily in the spacious room. "Does it matter? Life is but a game and, in this world, we're all just pawns, dear Zheng Ying. Some of us are just better players. It was your choice to be the latter. Even Liu Xiao Xin was more knowledgeable."

Zheng Ying's face contorted in disbelief and rage. "So, Liu Xueyi was right! You never intended to help me, or Ling! You just seized an opportunity, dragging us into your web of lies and deceit!"

Gao Yuemi shrugged, feigning indifference. "Isn't that how the world works? It's all about survival, dear. I did what I had to do."

"I trusted you," Zheng Ying hissed, her voice quivering with a mix of anger and heartbreak. "We were supposed to be in this together. For a better future."

A cold smirk formed on Gao Yuemi's face. "Friendship is just another tool, a means to an end. And you, dear Zheng Ying, served your purpose."

Tears streamed down Zheng Ying's face, a mix of rage and despair. "You're a wicked witch."

Gao Yuemi smirked and as a cruel glint flashed in her eyes, she seemed more devious than before.

The room became thick with tension, the underlying currents of rage and betrayal threatening to spill over.

With a steely determination, Zheng Ying gathered her composure and said, "You might have used me, but this isn't over, Yuemi. Not by a long shot."

Gao Yuemi's laughter rang hollow and cold. "It's cute you think that. But remember, darling, in this world, it's survival of the fittest."

"Survival of the fittest that made you ruin my chances of marrying Liu Xueyi?"

"Why yes? Why should you get a happily ever after while I remain at the back, always waiting and hoping for Liu Xueyi to choose me all my life? Who do you think you are and how long have you known him for you to be given such privilege?" Gao Yuemi voiced challengingly.

"Fine," Zheng Ying resigned. "I may have lost the battle but you lost the war. You may have ruined my chances of ever being with Liu Xueyi but the final war on who would have him would never be you. Andromeda won the war."

Gao Yumei shrugged and tucked both hands in her bosom. "Just like every other girl, I shall take care of her too."

"I'd love to see you try when Liu Xueyi visits his wrath on you for trying to harm her and interfering in his life always. Either way, know that whatever you sew that you shall reap, Yuemi. You will pay for this. I'll make sure of it."

Gao Yuemi's laughter filled the room again, more mocking this time. "Do you really think you stand a chance against me? Against the Liu family? They know of your betrayal. You're alone in this, darling."

Zheng Ying took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart. "Maybe I am, but I won't go down without a fight. Also, I think you should be more bothered about yourself. Who did you think opened my eyes to your evil ways? That's right. The Liu family would be after you too. You've been exposed as the snake that you are."

Gao Yuemi leaned forward, her voice dripping with menace. "You can try. But remember, in this game of power, there are always consequences."

"Andromeda's words. Hahaha, I have no doubt your retribution would be dire."

For a moment, the two women stared each other down, the tension palpable.

The battle had just begun. With one final, seething glance, Zheng Ying turned away, the weight of betrayal heavy on her shoulders. But a fire had been ignited within her — a flame of vengeance, ready to blaze.

Gao Yuemi would not go scot-free for ruining her. That was a promise, one she wouldn't forget.

Watching her leave, Gao Yuemi's brows narrowed as her gaze darkened. "Just why does the fly think she can fly high like a bird? Be it you, Andromeda or any other girl, if I can't have Xueyi, none of you can."

Turning her head to the side, Gao Yuemi called out sharply, "Yue-er, place a call to Dai Fenfang for me."

"Yes, mistress."
