CHAPTER 435

The next morning, Liu Xueyi sat in his room with Andromeda sitting beside him as he read over some documents that were sent to his mail earlier that morning for an important meeting, he was to attend that afternoon.

Getting such a contract with one of their clients—a large company that wanted to expand into the city, was a good chance.

However, Liu Xueyi could not help but worry about why things were that way.

He was still trying to figure out how they managed to get hold of this information since normally such things would be kept under wraps until everything was finalized and signed off on by all parties involved.

But here it seemed like there had been no secrecy at all.

Yet this client had come forward and offered this deal which meant it must mean something big or else no other party would dare offer so much money without any guarantee whatsoever.

"What's wrong? You seem distracted."

Andromeda's voice broke through the silence between the two of them making both look up from what they were doing.

"Nothing really," He replied quickly while looking away embarrassed because she caught him staring blankly instead of reading anything.

She smiled sweetly back at him though her eyes remained serious. "You are worried again aren't you?" she asked gently even if her tone sounded stern enough to make anyone feel guilty for being concerned when her life is in danger.

Liu Xueyi nodded slowly before replying, "I am just thinking too hard right now... I am sorry..."

"It's okay. I know with everything and your job, it requires a lot of time... I understand... But I hope we can spend more time together soon," Andromeda stated softly as she reached over and placed a hand over his where he rested his arm on the bed.

He looked down upon seeing his own hands resting idle beside his legs as he continued nodding his head silently as he tried his best not to think about his son who was sick somewhere faraway.

He knew that worrying about someone else was not fair but knowing that Zheng Ling was not well made him want to rush to the hospital immediately but unfortunately that was not possible given that work was calling first.

"We will have plenty of free time once this project ends and as soon as Zheng Ling is back on his feet again but until then let us..."

He had barely finished his sentence when his phone lit up and rang out.`

Both Andromeda and Liu Xueyi snapped their head towards his phone to see whose number came out from the screen.

Liu Xueyi picked up his phone and answered the call, "Hello?"

"Sorry to you this early, Xueyi but it's Ling. The doctor wants to see us. It's important."

Liu Xueyi's eyes widened. From the urgency in her voice he hoped it would not be something too dire but a solution.

He did not think his heart could take another bad news and he only hoped for his son's health.

"Okay," he replied after some seconds of silence. "Will be there."

"Okay, thanks. Sorry to bother you."

"Not to worry. Bye."

He ended the conversation before turning around to look at Andromeda who seemed worried herself by his reaction to the call.

"Hmm." He placed an arm over hers while giving her a reassuring smile before they both stood up together.

"I need to see Zheng Ying."

"Okay. I'll..."

The sound of an incoming message shifted her attention to her phone. "Excuse me."

She picked it up and opened the email. It was a message from the fashion show.

Due to certain reasons there was a push in the contest slated for that morning.

"I guess I can come with you."

"But your contest?"

Andromeda waved her hand holding her phone in front of Liu Xueyi's face. "Pushed to this evening. Today is the quarter finals. You do not need to worry."

Liu Xueyi hesitated for a while and then he nodded. "Fine. I am glad to have you with me. Let's go."

Getting their things ready, Andromeda followed behind him while they left the room together heading straight into the elevator which took them downwards.

*******

Arriving at the hospital, Andromeda sat on a bench outside a restaurant waiting patiently while Liu Xueyi went inside to see his son, giving himself and Zheng Ying space to handle their matter.

The sun shone brightly overhead while a gentle breeze blew through the air making everything feel fresh and clean after a long day's work.

Several minutes later, she saw him come out of the hospital looking dejected with Zheng Ying by his side with a similar expression.

By the time they got close to where she was, he stopped and turned to face Zheng Ying.

"You do not need to keep escorting me. You need to take care of our son."

"I... I am not that strong Xueyi, I need you. And only you can save our son. I cannot do it alone."

Andromeda watched on in silence while Liu Xueyi listened to Zheng Ying's explanation on how she was aware of their child's state but hoped it would not be this serious.

They conversed for some time and subsequently, turned to look at Andromeda.

"Should I tell her? I mean she would understand."

"No. There is nothing to understand there, Ying. I will find a way but not this."

"Xueyi..." she reached for him but he pulled back and shut his eyes. "I did not know it was this severe. Believe me, I would never do..."

"Say no more, Zheng Ying. You knew. You are a mother. You shouldn't have let it get worse before telling me."

"I'm sorry."

"Forget it. Please go back inside. I need to be alone."

She hesitated and finally let her hand fall at her side before taking her leave.

Once he was sure she was gone, he reopened his eyes and turned to face Andromeda.

"Hey."

Liu Xueyi's eyes glistened with tears as they landed on the love of his life.

Seeing this, Andromeda rose to her feet hurriedly and went to stand before him.

Her eyes searched for an answer in his, but when she found none, she reached for his face, her brows creasing as she hoped to understand his pain.

"What happened? Talk to me, honey."

Liu Xueyi lowered his head. He felt so much pain in his heart but he knew he could not keep her in the dark again.

He had to tell her the truth.

"He has been suffering from a rare form of blood cancer, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia."

Andromeda's eyes went wide as tears instantly pooled in their sockets. At the same time, Liu Xueyi lifted his head once more, his gaze settling on her.

When he did, his eyes were filled with regrets, guilt, anger, sadness and frustration.

"It could be cured through a bone marrow transplant or stem cell therapy. The problem is that according to the doctor, there aren't matching donors available."

"Then we expand our search, right?"

"The only hope left is finding someone else willing to donate a bone marrow or the best chance from a sibling."

"But... he doesn't have a sibling."

"He doesn't, yes. This brings us to the solution... Zheng Ying and I need to birth another child and I..."

"Don't say it."
