Chapter 19 19 - Inventory Hack

"Does anyone know where this team is from?" the man with the big shield asked, confused, but everyone else just shook their heads as confused as they were.

There were some rules among the Awakened: one of the rules was that it was forbidden to kill other people while they were hunting, but if someone threatened their own life, the counterattack would become legitimate as self-defense. But some groups didn't care about that, as the corpse would disappear in a few hours, becoming monster food. People wouldn't know who had killed them and in the end no one would be blamed. So often groups fought each other to the death because both groups wanted something from a monster they had killed, or even fought to steal each other's money and weapons.

So seeing a group like that young man's was not such a different thing, but what surprised them was that the group that young man was representing really didn't want to kill them, as it would have been so easy for them to have done that. Maybe if Josh didn't say anything they wouldn't have even hurt anyone, just picked up the feathers and walked away.

But the dumbfounded party didn't get mad at that young man's group for taking the golden feathers, since if they hadn't shown up, the group would have definitely died, as 4 people were already injured and only the man with the big shield and Josh were still able to fight.

"Glad we didn't offend those people. That boy has a great future ahead of him," the archer said in an admiring tone.

She saw how that boy's eyes didn't waver for a second, and how divine his aim was! If this kid had time to grow up, and with as good a group of archers as he was with, he would definitely become a Pure Silver Awakened!

[Congratulations, you killed a Bronze White Eagle, 3 Stars. You received 220 Experience Points.] x3

As Leo got out of reach of those people, he closed the system notification screens and put the feathers in his backpack in a special bag so they wouldn't get dirty, as unlike goblin ears, the feathers were much more fragile.

As he had already collected the 5 golden feathers, Leo looked at the list the old man had sent him and looked for what else he should hunt. Fortunately, the old man also said that he would buy these materials from Leo at the market price, but he would buy this directly from Leo as this kind of product was very popular with blacksmiths like him, and even with money it would sometimes be hard to get.

And seeing how dangerous it was to hunt white eagles when you only had an average team, Leo understood why the old man said that this kind of material was so hard to get on the market, and that was why this was already a great deal for Leo: he received a $40,000 discount on the bow, a reason to slay even more powerful monsters, and a challenge that got him pretty excited.

The list was quite extensive. If it was a normal Awakened group, 7 days might not even have been enough to get all the items, not considering if someone got hurt and they had to stop a few days for the person to heal in the hospital.

But for Leo this was not that difficult, as he could hunt the monsters much more easily, but on the other hand, Leo lacked experience in knowing how to reach the monsters from the list that the old man sent. Since one week hadn't even passed after Leo had first entered this forest, he still didn't know his surroundings well.

Looking at the cell phone, Leo, besides seeing the list of monsters he had to kill, also looked for where these monsters normally lived, and so he went to the monster with the closest habitat. Since he didn't have to run and shoot non-stop, Leo managed to maintain a lot more stamina, but on the other hand he hunted less monsters. In total, after 5 hours of hunting, Leo collected 6 Bronze 2 Star monster materials worth $500 each, 12 pairs of Bronze 3 Star Goblin Ears, worth $1,000 each, 5 Golden Feathers of Bronze 3 Star White Eagles worth $2,000 each, 8 Bronze 3 Star Snake Venom Bags worth $1,700 each and 10 sets of Bronze 3 Star Elk Sinews worth $1,250 each.

Adding it all up, Leo got $51,100! Even though he killed fewer monsters than he killed when hunting Bronze 2 Stars monsters, the money and Experience Leo received was much higher than hunting Bronze 2 Stars monsters! And considering the bigger monsters he hunted, it was lamentable that he couldn't get retrieve something valuable due to lack of space in his backpack. Leo felt he needed the Inventory-Hack urgently.

Leo looked at the large amount of Experience he had and grinned in satisfaction. With that amount of Exp he could evolve each skill at least once, or even unlock the Inventory-Hack he wanted so badly! But Leo was still cautious. Instead of just putting 5,000 experience points into the Inventory-Hack, he preferred to go back to the city and do it in his own apartment.

System v2.0 was Leo's biggest secret, and he didn't want other people to suspect that there was anything weird about him, so unless he was in some dangerous situation, Leo would prefer not to unlock abilities outside his home. Leveling up skills wasn't that big of a problem for him, as it wouldn't be such a noticeable thing, but unlocking a skill could cause some weird situation that would make Leo have to explain some things he'd rather avoid.

After returning to the city, Leo nodded to the guards guarding the gate, and they waved Leo back with mutual respect for Leo, for being stronger than them and always treating them well. The guards also knew the glorious future Leo was likely to have and still treated them politely. But just as Leo passed, the guards felt a faint sensation of a Bronze 3 Star monster passing along with Leo. The sensation was so faint that if they weren't paying attention they wouldn't have noticed, but they saw the shock in each other's eyes and realized they both felt the same thing.

"Did he really do that?" Greg told his friend with a shocked expression.

"Yes… the backpack looks like it was full of the remains of Bronze 3 Star monsters…" the other soldier said with even more shock.

As they were both Awakened Bronze 5 Stars, they would have no trouble hunting Bronze 3 Star monsters, but if they had to deal alone against Bronze 4 Star monsters it could be tricky.

But this rule that they thought applied to all Awakened apparently had no effect on that young man! Even as an Awakened Bronze 2 Star he was already hunting Bronze 3 Star monsters alone! If news about an Awakened hunting monsters of the same strength level was already rare, an Awakened hunting monsters one level above them was just considered legendary!

'He never ceases to amaze me.' That's what the two guards thought as they saw Leo walking away.

"Did you bring all this today? Your group is really good, boy!" The old man said, excited to see all the things coming out of Leo's backpack.

"You have two options: I buy these materials from you at the market price and discount how much money is left for your bow, and we end this debt as these materials are very useful to me, or I just give you the money and you continue to hunt the rest of the monsters that are on the list, and at the end, after you bring in all the monsters we ignore the $40,000 left to pay and you keep the money at the market price of the items on the list," The old man said to Leo as he looked at this young man with an expectant expression. fre(e)webnovel

When he sold the bow to Leo yesterday, he thought that this boy was part of a very powerful hunting party because of the large amount of money he had, but who knew his party would be powerful to the point of which he had already hunted? 25% of the list on the first day only?! Even if the deal they brokered yesterday was cancelled, the old man would still feel good, as he was likely making valuable connections with a powerful Awakened group.

"I'll keep hunting the monsters on the list and bring you the materials. It's a good exercise for me and the guys to hunt this way with varied targets rather than just being in one area hunting the same type of monsters for profit," Leo responded with a smile.

The old man looked at Leo and also smiled back, as even if he lost the $40,000 for the bow, he would get several times more by making more weapons with the materials Leo was bringing. That was practically a $40,000 investment for the old man to profit 5 or 10 times as much.

"Alright, let's go ahead with the deal then. I'll transfer the money for the materials on the list, but of course, if you want to buy something at the store with the money I have to pay you, I'll transfer you just the difference," the old man suggested, but Leo just refused; his equipment was already very good. And since he was an archer, Leo preferred to be mobile with light equipment rather than stronger equipment with a heavier weight.

After leaving the store, Leo took the rest of the supplies to the sales point and left with a big smile and a full bank account. Leo's goal now was to go back to the apartment and use his Experience Points to unlock the Inventory-Hack, so he could stop worrying about backpack space and start making even more money!
