Chapter 3408 A Dead End?

"How can this be? At this rate, only immortals will be able to barely pass through."

Xerax's expression turned unsightly.

If an inheritor like Youil couldn't pass through, then even he didn't have a chance as he raced through his cultivation stage. Besides, since he was a magical beast, Laws other than Light Laws with cyan petrifying properties weren't his forte.

"Should we get the young geniuses to leave?" Asked a Grand Elder.

The others also had unsightly expressions as their way out seemed to be closed. Their future appeared to be bleak.

"No! If you bring a large amount of people here, then this place might be targeted by that calamitous monster!" The other surviving inheritor waved his hand.

"But-"

"No buts!" Xerax voiced out firmly, "For the sake of the clan, their lives must be sacrificed. Quick, go get our experts, who are knowledgeable in Space Laws and spatial runes. It doesn't matter how weak they are in terms of cultivation base, but they must be at the Immortal King Stage. We must overcome this situation no matter what and exit to see the light of the day so that our Cyan Soul Rat Clan can prosper!"

"Yes!"

A few Grand Elders were left to search for young humans or fey geniuses who were knowledgeable in Space Laws.

Youil and the other inheritor also got to work, trying to decipher if they could stabilize the path enough so that Early Immortal Kings could pass through. If they could do that, then they could go as long as they seal their cultivation bases to the early stage.

Soon enough, a Grand Elder who went to scout returned to report that the calamitous spatial beast seemed to be devouring the space like it was sucking the blood out of meat.

"!!!"

They finally knew what was going on, knowing that the spatial tunnel was stabilized highly and that it did not match the wavelength of the collapsing mini-realm, which caused it to be extremely difficult to traverse. If one took a step inside, then they would be crushed by the spatial pressure that holds the mini-realm together.

Their expressions were dark, knowing that their chances to slacken the spatial tunnel's pressure were bleak, and the alternative was to go disturb that monster from what it was doing.

"…"

Naturally, Davis was observing their clown actions with much delight.

On the other hand, he naturally had his soul body follow the Grand Elders who went towards the cities to bring certain youths who were supposed to repair this situation.

He wondered what fate had in store for them. Would it save them from him or the Voidslime Realm Eater? He was very curious, intending to see if fate intentionally moved against him as his luck was bad unless he was accompanied by his beauties.

Myria also had bad luck, but Isabella and the others had quite good karmic luck.

In this place, the Cyan Soul Rat Clan naturally moved away from their base and sealed themselves into a mini realm. This should naturally harm their overall karmic luck.

He wanted to see what would happen and waited.

The Grand Elders brought the skilled juniors as requested, and they began working on a formation to lessen the pressure of the spatial tunnel so that they could fly out.

Five hours later, they finally made some progress. They imprinted countless spatial runs on a formation core and sent it inside the spatial tunnel, hoping to diminish the pressure. As soon as it reached the void, it abruptly stopped and began glowing with a blinding light.

The higher-ups then commanded one of those Immortal Kings to traverse. It was a woman.

She was the weakest Immortal King among them and looked at everyone, forcing her to go; her heart went cold. She looked towards the Grand Elders with an imploring gaze, but they didn't even look away but glared at her. Knowing that she would be executed for disobedience, she closed her eyes and seemed to have lost all hope.

Stepping inside the spatial vortex, she was able to move forward.

"…!"

Everyone rejoiced when they saw this. They saw her traversing the spatial vortex with ease, but halfway through, the formation core abruptly burst and exploded.

"Ahhhhh!~"

A painful cry resounded as that woman turned into a meatpaste within the spatial tunnel, her remains never to be retrieved like the other inheritor as they vanished within the spatial storm.

The expressions of Xerax and the others turned dark. The formation core they created to relieve the pressure was unable to cater to even the weakest Immortal King. Clearly, their spatial arts were a fart.

The Ancestors clenched their teeth. If they had only studied and comprehended spatial runes, then they would've made better formation cores, but they didn't.

"Sacrifice the fourth city. Get its experts to go kill it."

Xerax uttered, causing a few Grand Elders to jump.

"But it can't be kil-"

"I know, idiot! I'm only saying for them to sacrifice their lives so that the pressure on the spatial tunnel will be relieved. If not, go disturb it by yourself. Are you willing to be a hero?"

Xerax glared at that Grand Elder, causing him to lower his head.

The others didn't say anything to his command.

Their descendants were all living in the better cities that were already devoured. The other two cities were poor, while the fourth city was basically a slum with little amenities. In their minds, it was better to sacrifice the fourth city than to sacrifice the third city since the denizens in the fourth city were mostly talentless and useless because of their extremely impure bloodline quality.

If they didn't have the Cyan Soul Rat Clan blood, then they wouldn't even be taken here.

"It should be fourth city's honor to sacrifice for the clan. I'm sure they would all be willing…" Another Grand Elder spoke with a forced smile.

Perhaps it was done to bring some comfort and twist the truth, but the others all glared at him.

Whom he was fooling? At this point, they didn't even feel like making any excuses.

"…"

Davis had the urge to vomit after hearing that self-righteous tone.

He shook his head, his gaze then viewing the same sight as his soul body.

Soon enough, the fourth city's experts were being forcefully sent to disturb the Voidslime Realm Eater. They were being gathered at the city gates.

He raised his head and viewed further, his gaze panning around the city.

There were countless women and children crying on the streets as they saw their husbands and sons being taken away to fight the Voidslime Realm Eater. Anyone who resisted was killed on the spot.

The draft here was pretty brutal, and he had no doubt that after the men died, the city would be fed to the Voidslime Realm Eater to buy more time for the people of the third city to escape.

It wasn't his first time on the battlefield, but Davis couldn't help but smile bitterly.

Just a while ago, he was looking to massacre this clan.

When he read stories back in his days of imprisonment as an orphan in the mortal world, genocidal massacres against enemies like these were always gruesome, but for some reason, conveniently so, most of the stories left out of the part where children also get slaughtered. Perhaps it was due to censors or wanting to not offend a portion of the population who could only think in a single straight line, but he wasn't granted the same protective lens.

He was forced to look at reality.

No matter his actions, he would be the underlying cause of what was going to happen to them as he possessed both the powers to stop the Voidslime Realm Eater and allow it to continue to devour this mini realm.

After all, a bystander who doesn't stand up against wrong could also be considered a wrongdoer or part of the problem. Davis didn't view things that way since every life was precious, so he mostly thought it was also a bystander's right to remain free of trouble.

However, it could also be taken as an excuse as a grown-up's life could not be spoken in the same length as a harmless, innocent child's. No matter the reason, the lives of the children would take precedence, so moral hierarchy dictates that any adult, whether good or bad, should help them survive without rhyme or reason.

He felt the same way. Even so, there were two options before him. He could watch them all die from being consumed by the Voidslime Realm Eater, or he could save them.

He was leaning towards the latter as bloodshed wasn't his aim, but letting go of his enemies or their faction who were fattened up by their wrongdoing wasn't his style either.

'The struggle between good and bad… could it be I'm cursed to be a contradiction because my soul carries both life and death within…?'

Davis clenched his teeth. Even Fallen Heaven underwent a personality change when it got its powers back, causing it to turn tame instead of spouting murderous intentions, so he guessed that he wasn't free from being a walking contradiction himself even since his soul became one of life and death.

Perhaps it only amplified the contradictions he felt.
