Chapter 675 Evidence

Wang Chao stared at the picture Gray had shown and then at the fingerprint identified by the forensic expert. His gaze finally landed on Gray, and he said coldly, "Why are you doing this?"

He had never met Gray before, and they had no enmity. However, on their first encounter, Gray had shown an attitude of hostility towards him. Now, the moment Wang Chao entered the murder scene, Gray had produced his fingerprint, which had been collected at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Clearly, Gray had come prepared!

"I don't know what you're talking about," Gray said, pointing his gun at Wang Chao, with a frigid expression. "Wang Chao, we currently suspect you of this murder. It's best if you surrender quietly, or I have the authority to shoot you."

He placed his finger on the trigger, ready to fire at any moment.

"What evidence do you have to prove I'm the killer?" Wang Chao scoffed.

Gray's eyes turned icy, and he said, "Heh, your fingerprint is on the murder weapon, and you were staying next door to the victims last night. Isn't that clear enough?"

"According to my deduction, you had a dispute with Dr. Bernard at Massachusetts General Hospital. To take revenge on him, you specifically investigated his family. When you found out his brother was here, you pretended to be a couple on a romantic getaway and stayed in the room next to theirs."

"During the quiet night, you intentionally entered their room by climbing the wall and killed them."

"Am I right?"

Once he said this, everyone at the scene turned their gaze to Wang Chao, with a mix of shock and coldness in their eyes.

Many police officers also had their fingers on the triggers, ready to shoot Wang Chao.

"Brother Wang, what should we do? The newcomers seem unfriendly," Shen Bing asked nervously, grabbing Wang Chao's collar and contemplating the situation.

She had realized that Gray was deliberately making things difficult for them. However, this was a foreign country, and they were isolated.

Resisting the arrest might be an option. With Wang Chao's strength, he could indeed defeat all these people and leave. But, this would make them the prime suspects in the murder, and they would be wanted in White Eagle Country.

This would not only lead to them being fugitives but also implicate Joseph.

"Don't worry; I'm here."

Wang Chao remained calm and turned to Gray. "Your analysis isn't entirely baseless, and I do have a motive for revenge against Bernard."

"But, I have a question for you. Based on the scene, the victims showed no signs of struggle or resistance, which means the killer was significantly stronger than them and could have left after committing the crime."

"But why did the killer leave the murder weapon behind?"

"If I were the killer and left this weapon with my fingerprints, it would be entirely against my interest and would put me in a life-threatening situation. So why would I do that?"

"If I were really the killer and left the weapon while sleeping soundly in the room next door, waiting for you to come and arrest me, does that make sense?"

With this, all the police officers at the scene fell into thought, considering this possibility. Wang Chao couldn't be the killer if he had left the weapon behind. It just didn't make sense.

Gray had prepared for this moment long in advance. He sneered and said, "That's because you're overconfident. You not only want revenge on Bernard but also want to toy with us. You're trying to use this story to prove yourself."

"Many criminals, after committing murder, come back to the scene to revisit their crime. It's the psychology of a criminal!"

"And you're no exception!"

"Furthermore, we found shoeprints at the window that match your shoes."

He then tossed the discovered evidence in front of Wang Chao.

It was a picture of a shoeprint, which was an exact match to the shoes Wang Chao was wearing now.

Seeing this, many police officers were left puzzled. Both Wang Chao and Gray had their reasoning, and they didn't know who to believe.

"Wang Chao, you crawled in through the window from outside, killed the couple, and crawled back out through the window, returning to the room next door. How can you deny this?" Gray scolded.

Dennis's eyes narrowed, and he looked at the forensic expert responsible for the survey.

The expert nodded and said, "We indeed found shoeprints on the window, balcony, and wall."

At this moment, Dennis's radio crackled to life. Another police officer's voice came through, "Chief, we found a rope on the upper floor. The length is just enough to reach the victims' balcony."

"According to our investigation, it seems someone swung down on this rope to the victims' balcony, climbed in through the open window, killed them, and then left the same way."

At these words, Dennis's expression turned cold, and he focused on Wang Chao.

All the police officers at the scene glared at Wang Chao, their eyes filled with hostility.

Gray pointed his gun at Wang Chao, shouting, "Wang Chao, the evidence is ironclad. You killed the victims. What else can you argue?"

In his mind, he sneered, "Wang Chao, I knew you'd say this. I've prepared all the evidence, and now, let's see how you get away!"

Gray was quite sinister. He had prepared everything in advance before attempting to frame Wang Chao.

The chain of evidence was compelling. Every piece of evidence pointed to Wang Chao, and Gray had predicted Wang Chao's responses. No matter what Wang Chao said, he could forcibly label Wang Chao as the murderer.

Whether Wang Chao believed it or not didn't matter. Whether Dennis and the others believed it didn't matter. What mattered was that the suspect Wang Chao was now identified, allowing them to take him to the police station.

Once Wang Chao was in the police station, that person would naturally arrive and put Wang Chao in his place.

"I'm innocent. I believe Chief Dennis will give me a fair and just judgment," Wang Chao said, his gaze cold as he stared at Gray.

This man had come prepared, and he was undoubtedly backed by someone even more terrifying. Wang Chao was eager to find out who was behind Gray.

Was it the mysterious figure in the red robe, who killed the Bernard family, framed him, and was the true mastermind? Or was it someone else?

What were their motives?

A myriad of thoughts raced through Wang Chao's mind at this moment.

However, he didn't personally investigate the flaws in the crime scene but turned his gaze to Dennis.

He could tell that Dennis and Gray were not on the same side. Otherwise, Dennis wouldn't have invited him to inspect the scene.

"You're just a suspect, yet you dare to instruct Chief Dennis on how to do his job?" Gray continued to scold.

Ignoring everyone else, Dennis watched the scene, listening to the reports from the forensic experts. He furrowed his brow, deep in thought.

"Chief, no need to think anymore. My years of experience and intuition tell me that Wang Chao is definitely the killer. We must handcuff him and bring him to the police station for further investigation," Gray said.

"Shut up!"

Dennis gave him a fierce look and said coldly, "We are the police, and we emphasize fairness, justice, and transparency. How could we wrong an innocent person?"

"Wait for the scene personnel to finish their investigation, and then we can discuss further."

"If Wang Chao is truly the killer, I will ensure he's handcuffed and faces trial."

Gray's expression froze.

This Dennis is truly a fool. He has made it so obvious, yet how can this guy not understand his intention?

Dennis stared at the two corpses on the ground, lost in thought for a long time. Finally, he walked over to the TV in the hall and fixed his gaze on the screen.

Everyone at the scene exchanged puzzled looks. The two bodies and the murder suspect were all here, and the evidence was compelling. So what was Dennis looking at on the TV? Did the TV hold the truth?

Gray became impatient and walked over to Dennis. He whispered in Dennis's ear, "Chief Dennis, with the irrefutable evidence we have, we must handcuff him and take him to the police station for interrogation."

"This is Sheriff Scabro's order and also the intention of our higher-up, Mr. Trollop."

Dennis's expression changed slightly upon hearing this. Scabro and Trollop were both high-ranking members of the Bernard family, as well as influential figures in the White Eagle Country system.

According to Gray's words, it seemed like the Bernard family had learned of the deaths of these two individuals and was furious. They wanted to detain Wang Chao and exact revenge.

"Dennis, consider this. Can you, by yourself, stand against the formidable Bernard family?" Gray whispered.

Dennis's pupils contracted.

Indeed, on his own, he couldn't possibly contend with the vast Bernard family. If he forcefully defended Wang Chao, he might become an enemy of the Bernard family. This would inevitably lead to retaliation within his own department and possibly jeopardize his career.

Thinking of this, Dennis's expression changed, and his gaze turned sharp. He raised his voice and ordered, "The evidence is conclusive. Someone, handcuff Wang Chao and the other person and take them back to the station for interrogation!"

Wang Chao and Shen Bing's expressions darkened upon hearing this. These people were trying to frame them without evidence.

"Brother Wang, what should we do?" Shen Bing furrowed her brows, gripping Wang Chao's hand tightly.

These so-called police officers were already so indiscriminate at the scene. Once they entered the police station, who knew what they might do.

"Don't worry, we'll be fine," Wang Chao reassured her.

In his eyes, these people were just small fry. Even if the real big shots from White Eagle Country showed up, he could make them bow down.

To him, these people were nothing but small shrimp.

As long as he wanted to, he could eliminate these people at any time and then call certain departments of White Eagle Country to clean up the scene.

Upon hearing Dennis's words, Gray sneered and immediately produced handcuffs. He approached Wang Chao and Shen Bing with a malevolent and arrogant expression.

"Stop!"

Just as Gray was about to approach Wang Chao and Shen Bing, a cold voice rang out.

Following the voice, a tall, elegant woman with a graceful figure, striking beauty, and blonde hair walked over. She looked at Gray with a hint of anger and said, "Mr. Policeman, aren't you acting a bit presumptuous?"

"I can prove that Mr. Wang didn't leave his room last night. He is not the murderer."

Wang Chao was slightly taken aback when he saw this woman.

Jessica?

How did she end up here?

Shen Bing also looked at Jessica with a puzzled expression. She couldn't understand why Jessica was stepping in to help them.

"Jessica?"

"Oh my goodness, what's going on? Why is dear Miss Jessica appearing here? And defending a Dragon Kingdom person, no less?"

"What nonsense are you spouting? This isn't called defending. Miss Jessica is upholding justice!"

"Don't forget, Miss Jessica is the top celebrity in our White Eagle Country. She used to play roles as a lawyer and detective, and she's trained in legal and detective skills. Her appearance here to uphold justice is like a real-life detective drama. I can't wait to see Miss Jessica in action!"

The moment Jessica appeared, many of the police officers on the scene and the onlookers outside the room went wild. They raised their phones to capture Jessica, Wang Chao, and the others.

Dennis and Gray, upon seeing Jessica, had grim expressions. Gray, in particular, went from being sinister and arrogant to looking extremely uncomfortable.

Although Jessica was just an actress, her connections were too powerful. Many high-ranking leaders in the police department were her fans. If she defended Wang Chao, he might face tremendous pressure.

Suppressing his inner anger, Gray tried to remain calm and asked, "Miss Jessica, please don't speak without evidence. Do you have any proof that he didn't leave the room?"

"Of course, I do!"

Jessica appeared confident and instructed the female photographer who was following her, "Kelly, show these two gentlemen from the police the footage from last night."

Kelly stepped forward, glared menacingly at Wang Chao, and then produced a USB drive, handing it to Gray. "This contains footage from last night's shoot, capturing anything happening outside Mr. Wang's and the victim's windows. During our overnight shooting, Mr. Wang never left the premises."

"If you don't believe me, see for yourselves!"
