"Oh, sh*t!" less than ten seconds after the calm soldier convinced himself on what had to be done, they were attacked by a detachment group of zombies with a weird right arm. It was like a parasitic being had forcefully rearranged the structure of its host's limb and turned it into something else.
In this case, the left arm was turned into something like a biologically formed musket. It was only capable of firing a single projectile each time. Still, the rate of fire was higher than the traditional one.
Perhaps, the differences in firepower were compensated by the lack of external bullets or sophisticated parts needed. All the parasitic weaponry required was a collective of powerful flesh and muscle to force that bullet out to kill.
And what happened to the unit-2 leader was the best outcome for this horde and the native leading them.
"Get down, guys! Activates your Leidenfrost Curtain!" the calm soldier stepped forward and took a guarding position before his colleagues could react. In responsiveness, he can be said to be the steadiest individual on this battlefield.
His quick response helped protect the other two while they put their protection shield up. As for the soldier further behind, his luck was terrible in this round.
The shot from this detachment of zombies killed him before he could respond. Even if he could, with four of his colleagues standing in front of him, he couldn't struggle before surrendering to his fate.
This soldier ended up as the first to go down in this battle as the attack from the zombies tore his body apart.
"No!" the soldier that protected the other three regretted the fact he couldn't save that pitiful colleague of his. They might be just clones here on this island, but Zhang Qin Feng gave them sufficient freedom to have a thought of their own.
His humane treatment made these soldiers understand more about this cruel battlefield and its importance to staying alive. In this world, losing doesn't mean the end, but dying is.

The disturbance on the Luna Device seemed to be cleared slightly as a few broken words could be heard and deciphered.
"Let's bet on this!" the calm soldier pushes the button on one of the grenades he snatched from the unit-2 leader and tosses it right at the middle of the detachment zombies.
The flying projectile caught the musket zombies' attention, but while they're good at aiming still targets, moving one, like that small grenade, is hard to get a nice hit.
*Boom!!!*
An explosion about the power of a C4 pack explodes in the middle of the detachment zombie forces.
Although the explosion failed to kill most of them immediately, it was more than enough as the parasitic flesh gathered around the right arm were all escaping from the fallen zombies.
But instead of escaping, the parasitic fleshes were searching for their next host instead. Most of the surviving parasites latched on the nearby zombie. They replaced some missing limbs, but some without issue with the limbs grew an extra one to compensate for the parasite's physical requirement.
It seemed that the attack that was supposed to weaken the zombies ended up strengthening them further.
"Damn! Are we dying here today?" the two soldiers complained.
*Bzzt…*
This time, the vibration on their Luna Device was much stronger than before, and it was like they were receiving a call. But the buzzing noise continued, no matter how they tried to answer or adjust the device's frequency.
Until…
The sound of APV's roaring engine can be heard. Three APVs charged into the battlefield from the cliff behind the zombie's detachment. They immediately eradicated these virus carriers before they could do anything.
Their firepower was about the same as the unit-2. But the differences come from experience and also leadership. With Zhang Tianci leading the three APVs to act together as one, the zombie's detachment was forced to engage with an opponent they hate to go against.
Almost every bullet fired would tear the virus carrier's flesh apart, leaving them with a bleeding gap that can't be ignored by the parasitic flesh.
And while the parasite tried to secure their host, the attack continued.
Once the host was compromised or injured beyond rescue, the parasitic flesh would consider leaving the host. And this is precisely the best moment to deliver a killing blow.
When the parasitic flesh wanted to detach itself from the host, it would first start from the spine. And this will end up leaving the parasite's core popping out from the body like the head of a grown mushroom.
"Unit-2, stay right where you are! We'll cover you." Zhang Tianci yelled as he fired a laser beam towards the zombies coming at them slowly. The action of these zombies was much slower than this detachment, which only meant one thing.
Only those zombies nearby were hosting the parasitic flesh.
"All the virus carriers and possible parasite is destroyed, sir!" said the other two team leaders following Zhang Tianci.
"Good job. Let us pull out before it was too late. Separates the unit and moves back to the Operation Base until further order. I'll be making my way to another battlefield right now," said Zhang Tianci.
"Yes, Sir! We'll make our way home first!" the two team leaders acknowledged Zhang Tianci's order before pulling out from the battlefield.
As for Zhang Tianci, he had no other choice but to move towards unit-1's location. If he's not mistaken, they should be getting pinned down by the Zombie Horde as well.
But to his surprise, the team leader for this group seems to have some potential for future promotion.
Not only he's capable of withstanding the attack from two Zombie Hordes but also ready for the third horde to come. His arrangement surprised Zhang Tianci as he had no idea such a promising individual existed in the first unit.
But it was too bad as their order was complete retreat.
