Chapter 403: Return To Base
For the first time ever, Zhang Qin Feng found that listening to Victor's blabbering about a firearm is quite soothing to his troubled heart.
Continuing from where Zhang Tianhuo stopped, it seems that the enhanced ammunition wasn't the only upgrade to this successor of Lunacy Anti-Materiel Rifle. It also comes with an interchangeable Prismatic Cell that could power the laser beam function that tore apart the mutant earlier.
Although the Prismatic Cell it uses was just the single-morphed type, inside that cell alone still holds a thousand Duranium Shard's worth of energy. From their current breakthrough, it is believed that a Vanquisher Rifle could fire that laser beam ten times before it was out of juice.
From Zhang Tianhuo's mouth, it seems that Victor also tried his hand in inventing the Nightstalker Bracelet with the ability to harness the energy from the same Prismatic Cell. Unfortunately, his attempt was a failure as the bracelet's overall function relied on an entirely different power-harnessing mechanism.
It seems that there are still a few parts of adjustment to be done on the Nightstalker Bracelet before it can harness the Small-Type Prismatic Cell properly.
Victor also created an entirely new line of melee weaponry in different appearances. Right now, there's a choice of Katana Sword, Double-edge Axe, Long Spear, and Gauntlets. Alike the Vanquisher, these tools also come with a single Small-Type Prismatic Cell that has to be replaced often to maintain energy usage.
But Victor wasn't the only one with all these new discoveries. Marvin, too, benefitted from this.
It seems that the success in creating a new power generator made everything else progress swifter than before. Furthermore, the Research Facility's improvement is still yet to be delivered to him. When that happened, it would likely be something groundbreaking again.
All of this was indeed their fruit of labor from Zhang Qin Feng's investment and trust.
As they got more than just the Armored Vehicle to talk about, everyone else got on the truck and prepared for their return to the operation base. Although the construction is yet to be completed, it shouldn't have a problem accommodating all of them for a day or two.
"So, this truck is not the only surprise Marvin had you brought to me?" a smile is on Zhang Qin Feng's face as he curiously asked.
He's wondering what else they brought here if these Armored vehicles weren't the feature Marvin wanted Zhang Qin Feng to see.
"Exactly, creator." zhang Tianhuo nodded. It seems Zhang Tianci was not interested in these talks and focused on driving instead. The new controlling console seemed to catch his attention.
"Marvin called this APV or Armored Personnel Vehicle. From what he said, the older base once met with an opponent driving something similar to this. Unfortunately, they're unable to maintain the vehicle properly."
"This made Marvin redesign the vehicle according to our requirement, and the three APV you can see here were part of the trial samples. The first one was the regular Protection-Type, the second was a Mobility-Type, and lastly, was the one we're using, the Armed-Type," said Zhang Tianhuo.
"This is the Armed-Type? I could hardly notice the armament it had. Where did all of them hide?" Zhang Qin Feng asked.
"Well, not noticing the armament is expected because they're all hidden behind the armored partitions. In fact, this vehicle no longer uses the CIWS-model turret as our means of protection. The protection had changed into using the same weapon system as the Nightstalker Bracelet. They provide greater firepower and lighter weight."
Zhang Tianhuo continues to explain. The introduction soon moved to the Protection-Type and Mobility-Type. Still, it wasn't as interesting to Zhang Qin Feng anymore.
The three trucks soon stopped around the Beacon Site to carry all the remaining personnel before continuing their journey back to the operation base. Throughout the trip, Zhang Qin Feng closed his eyes and tried to rest before arriving. To him, the distance of five kilometers wasn't too close nor far.
This is just enough for Zhang Qin Feng to rest his mind for a while.
Zhang Qin Feng ended up thinking about Wang Yufei and Jun Minji the moment he fell asleep. Perhaps, the feeling of security around him was what made him think about home.
'The seventh month is soon to be here, and I should be going back to the modern world to take a look. Hopefully, nothing much happened back there.' Zhang Qin Feng communicates with himself while he's indulged in his own world's matter right now.
Resting inside this new APV also allowed Zhang Qin Feng to enjoy a hint of luxury as the build quality of these vehicles was superb. It was understandable that the quality was important because this was a military product. But to Zhang Qin Feng, who had the experience of living in two different worlds, he knew that this matter wasn't as simple as he thought.
While advanced technology does help in this matter, it eventually returned to the importance of its uses. Since they don't have any demand from the public right now, it was only natural that the truck was created to be used by the soldiers.
The ride back was a comfortable one. Even on rough and challenging surfaces like this, the APV still moves effortlessly. After enjoying such a comfy ride as this one, an idea suddenly appeared in Zhang Qin Feng.
'What if… I bring this technology back to the modern world?' he's somewhat half-serious and half-not. Of course, it was a thought that appeared out of nowhere.
But when the three APVs arrived at the Operation Base, Zhang Qin Feng was greeted with a pretty completed base. Except for certain high-rise buildings within the perimeters, the land reclamation and foundations had been completed for a while.
Zhang Qin Feng was then greeted by the three-carriage Mobile Command Center, working as the core gradually expanding outward.
The sight made Zhang Qin Feng lose his calmness.
"Boss! What do you think, huh?" Alex got down from the MCC and came to the vehicle Zhang Qin Feng was in. It seems that he had been keeping in touch with Zhang Tianhuo for a while.
"Alex?" Zhang Qin Feng was surprised to see one of his most trusted officers standing outside of the vehicle he was in.
