Chapter 401: Zhang Tianhuo

"Keep firing!!!" said Zhang Qin Feng as he started to get panic. It seems that even Stein was searching for a solution. Furthermore, this was a completely new threat to them as they had never seen a mutant like this before.

And from the look of it, it seems the mutant only fancies biological matters. While it was moving, the trees, leaves, and even weeds on the ground weren't left side. But it actually ignored all other things, such as the stones, the lead bullets they fired, and the casing from the Decimator's Warhead.

This mutant's bloodied gelatinous body also caught Zhang Qin Feng's interest as he found it surprisingly durable. Putting aside the ability to digest biological matter when inside its body, it seems able to grab a hold, devour, movement, and more.

To Zhang Qin Feng, such an ability is godlike.

'Was this the pinnacle of simplicity and perfection? To think it can eat and digest everything in its path.' Zhang Qin Feng thought. But he had no luxury time to go further than just appreciation.

If he failed to stop this thing from getting closer to the beacon site, the life of his twenty-five crews there would be in danger.

'I'll just feed you with this Wolfram Light.' Zhang Qin Feng shook his hand and grabbed the Wolfram Light out from his inventory.

"Everyone! Get the hell out of here and bring all the crews to a retreat!" he ordered. It seems that he's ready to go against this mutant by himself.

"But, Boss!" the combatants hesitates.

'Who the hell leaves their boss to die here to secure their path of retreat?' the combatants thought.

"Just leave! Get the hell out of here before I ignite the Wolfram Light! Don't tell me you're looking forward to getting burned to death?" Zhang Qin Feng repeated.

"Go! Just go! Bring the remaining crews out of the site before this thing gets there!" Zhang Qin Feng continued. If he was the only one to stay here, it wouldn't be a problem for his Leidenfrost Curtain to protect him to a certain degree.

And without them looking, he could even teleport back to the modern world by using the ridiculous amount of Duranium Shards he had in his Dimensional Storage.

The combatants sprinted away as they obeyed Zhang Qin Feng's order.

"Eat this flame of your size, you damn blob of flesh." Zhang Qin Feng pressed the button to ignite the Wolfram Light from within and tossed it into the mutant's body.

Similar to how the bullets travel from one end to another, the grenade entered the mutant's body as Zhang Qin Feng took a roll on the ground and distanced himself from the monster. Zhang Qin Feng looked full of expectation when the Wolfram Light gave out a brilliant light inside the mutant's body.

"Die!" he yelled.

But the desired outcome did not happen.

The light flashed once, but the fire intensity nor scalding hot air that burns the throat when breathing did not happen here.

"F-F-Fuck!" Zhang Qin Feng cussed. His expression was uglier than ever when he noticed the hottest weapon he had in hand actually yielded no effect inside the mutant's body.

That was understandable because, inside that body itself, there's no oxygen for the Wolfram Light to spread. And since this weapon heavily relies on oxygen to spread and rose to the desired temperature to burn all the filth away, it was naturally…

Ineffective against this mutant.

But the heat from the weapon did catch the mutant's attention. Its self-defense mechanism registered Zhang Qin Feng as a threat instead of food. For the first time from attacking it until now, the mutant retaliates.

This mutant's cloudy, red color mass suddenly turned into multiple tentacles as it tried to grab Zhang Qin Feng where he stood.

Of course, Zhang Qin Feng wasn't stupid enough to let the tentacles capture him.

"Activates both serums!" Zhang Qin Feng yelled and grabbed an industrial flamethrower to deter the mutant's tentacles. It might be a non-conventional weapon, but the usefulness is what's important here.

It was unavoidable that Zhang Qin Feng had to fight for his life right now against this mutant that was invulnerable to most weaponry except fire-based tools.

Next on his list, he grabbed the Nightstalker Bracelet and fired at the mutant again, but the result was mediocre. It was somewhat effective in deterring the mutant but not injuring it.

In terms of heat damage, the Nightstalker Bracelet is better. Still, the heat dissipates too fast for it to work effectively on the mutant. As for the flamethrower, it was like deterring a snake with sulfur and hardly removing the threat.

The stalemate continued until the mutant fired a much smaller, wheel-sized form out from the main body.

"Fuck!" Zhang Qin Feng cursed.

Now, he has two targets to fight against. And to his surprise, it seemed that the second body was weaker.

Unfortunately for Zhang Qin Feng, being weaker physically doesn't mean he can kill it right away from a shot of his flamethrower. Furthermore, it seems that the biological matter it digested was what assisted this mutant's growth.

The further he attacked the second body, the more it ran around and absorbed the shrubs and weeds along the ground. And before Zhang Qin Feng noticed, it was 1.5x times the size it was before.

Zhang Qin Feng tossed the second Wolfram Light on the ground nearby and created a deadly burning field without further ado. This time, his sacrifices yield some effort as it deters the mutant from going further to the beacon site.

The flame even killed the second body as it was disintegrated into flakes like burnt clay.

It seems that the attack successfully made the mutant hesitates. But as it took another route and left, the mutant suddenly tossed another part of itself straight at Zhang Qin Feng.

"You wish, sucker!" the surprise attack was fast, but Zhang Qin Feng was much faster. He'd managed to take a leap and get out from the incoming blob of flesh.

But to his surprise, it was not one but two blobs of flesh coming at him. He may have evaded the first, but not the second a meter away.

*BANG!*

And at this crucial moment, a shot was fired.
