Chapter 350: (EDT) Second Part - Duranium Crystal
"Baaaaaaaaang!"
The high-caliber turret swept through the zombies' rank as soon the AI support noticed a Tyrant in the crowd. But because the monster was far from their barricade perimeters, the collection crew couldn't pick up the Duranium Shards inside the body.
This was one of the two CIWS turrets deployed on the left and right corners of the port to repel powerful mutants like a Tyrant-Class. From day one until now, it had killed close to ten Tyrants before it managed to get close.
As for the soldiers and other crew members, they were busy with the task in their hands. Starting from letting a group of zombies come inside the cage, the remaining members will begin to kill them and extract possible Duranium Shards from the body before incinerating all the corpses.
Although their work is quite repetitive, nobody here dared to take their mission lightly. All of them here were experienced individuals that know how fast can the situation escalates the moment they slacked a little.
But on the fourth day after Zhang Qin Feng sailed off from the port, the attack from the zombie started to get more relentless than before. And based on their crimson eyes, this indicates that there's a Screamer present in the crowd.
At first, the two CIWS firing rate was averagely one every half an hour but soon responded faster, with more Tyrants appearing to be on their way towards the base.
The soldiers were not bothered by this at first and continued to refill the bullets used by the CIWS. But then, everything changed.
Out of a sudden, the CIWS lost control and fired indiscriminately. All the reserve bullets prepared for the weapon were used in a flash. Although there's more ammunition back in the underground, they'll have to return and bring some over before the turret can return to operation.
But as the soldier left, a section of a concrete wall was thrown in the turret's direction and took down the first CIWS. The second turret was taken down fifteen seconds later.
With the destruction of two turrets, even a fool would have noticed something was wrong.
The order to retreat was immediately issued by the safe zone leader.
Then, the next batch of nightmares came. After destroying the turrets, the zombies were the following projectiles to be thrown inside the base. While most soldiers managed to escape from the rain of zombies, the crews had it worst when the zombies fell on top of them.
After the rain of zombies, more concrete blocks were thrown into the safe zone. The portside that used to be well preserved is now only left with a concrete forest with a heavy smell of death in a flash. And instead of having a thousand zombies swarming this place, it was now packed with Tyrants all over.
Out of ten soldiers and twelve crews, only half of them successfully hide inside the basement full of supplies. But surviving under this feat might be worst than dying.
*ROAR!*
A loud scream from the surface quickly came and delivered fear to everyone underground.
It seems that there's a king here as well, which yet to make his appearance to the survivors.

"Boss, if you're ready, please take a look at this feeding tank and growth tank we had here." Lucian was smiling while showing Zhang Qin Feng the two transparent culture tanks with leeches crawling inside.
Although it was called "leeches" by the researchers, these organisms don't look similar to the same thing back in the modern world. Except for the blood-feasting ability and boneless structure, there's nothing that resembles the leech from his world.
While the leeches in the growth tank are significantly smaller, the one inside the feeding tank was all about ten inches long. They look more closely like a stag beetle's caterpillar, without all the legs.
And it seems that the leeches have two different ways to feed. They could either bite directly at the Blood Plant to absorb the artificial blood juices from the stem itself or spit a weird net of silk to drain the sap from the ground.
"They look bizarre." Zhang Qin Feng said. Although he knows that the thirst for technology and science for the people here were a little overboard, he had no idea it was to this point.
In a way, they could be called a bunch of mad scientists if these people were introduced to his world.
"They do look a little gross, but I'm sure boss will be happy when you notice what will happen after they're fully fed." Lucian continues to face Zhang Qin Feng with a smile after pressing a button to take two different tanks out from the next cultivating module.
On the third cultivating tank was a much more giant leech. If the size of a ten inches leech was not bizarre enough, then the one around seventeen to eighteen inches would be. But instead of continuing to eat, the organism was actually going through a weird mutating process that would gradually split itself into an inch-long fattened leech.
"The cultivated leech would divide itself like this when they're fully fed. This process will continue for four to five cycles, depending on their lifespan." Lucian said.
"En. But you still haven't told me how you're going to get the Duranium Shard from these things. Don't tell me that you'll have to mince them into pulp before cooking and processing them into blood crystals?" Zhang Qin Feng jokes.
But behind his jokes was a hint of impatience. He had not expected to be shown with something like this on his visit.
"Of course not, Boss." Lucian nodded. Tapping on the button to take the cultivating tank away, a slightly different tank was brought in next. This one was completely different from the previous three tanks he saw.
"What the hell? Is this still a Duranium Shard we're trying to make?" Zhang Qin Feng asked.
Inside the cultivating tank were many fully crystalized leeches that had crystals growing out from their flesh. This situation looks like how the people were trying to make artificial crystals out of super-saturated solutions.
"They're a purer version of Duranium. If we have the honor to name this, calling it Duranium Crystal would be a good choice." Lucian said. It seems that he already had the confidence that Zhang Qin Feng would be happy with their results for now.
