Chapter 317: Short Return To Dongcheng
"Feng, what plan did you have when we arrived at Suihe City later?" Wang Yufei asked while they were inside the commercial flight towards Dongcheng.
Although he could opt for a private jet towards Dongcheng, Zhang Qin Feng felt that returning to Dongcheng while keeping a low profile would be a good idea.
After all, he's still someone pronounced dead due to the plane accident in the past half a year.
Perhaps that's why Zhang Qin Feng decided to come back quietly without informing anyone about their trip to avoid creating gossip and news for the nosy reporters.
This time, his return was to settle some of his personal matters and repay what this country provides to him so far. But the mere thinking about this made him somewhat bewildered.
Especially while he had two different passports in his hand. One was a recently issued passport given by Wang Yufei. Another was the passport given to him by Jason Deng. Both booklets come in the same dark blue cover, but the golden wordings printed on them were different.
The one from Wang Yufei represents his citizenship in Dongcheng. At the same time, Jason Deng stated that Zhang Qin Feng was a First-Rank Honorary Citizenship of Marianna.
This made Zhang Qin Feng had an issue in choosing which passport to use when going through the customs control. Although using either one would hardly affect things right now, people might misunderstand his intention either way.
Soon, Zhang Qin Feng finds out that his thinking is too naive.
Instead of going through the regular border control, he was politely escorted towards another exit with a welcoming party organized by his family and acquaintances. His mother, uncle, Fatty Xie, and Tang Xin all made their appearance here and welcomed him back to Dongcheng.
The welcoming party brought some warmth into Zhang Qin Feng as he went into his family and friends' embrace. Be it close family, friends, or distant acquaintances, this was something memorable for him.
The crowd was then invited to use the airport's VIP lounge for Zhang Qin Feng to entertain his friends and family that evening. Although most of the people here were primarily interested in his achievement and connection with Marianna's government, Zhang Qin Feng doesn't seem to mind it.
After the welcoming party finally concluded at night, Zhang Qin Feng took the opportunity to formally introduced Wang Yufei to the elders that remained in his family. While his mother only met Wang Yufei two to three times until now, his uncle was more familiar with the owner of Manyue Restaurant.
"Mother, let me introduce her to you properly this time. This is Wang Yufei, my wife. I'm sorry that I got engaged without asking or getting your approval first. Please forgive this unfilial son of yours." Zhang Qin Feng said while kneeling before his mother.
Wang Yufei followed Zhang Qin Feng like an obedient wife and accompanied him on her knees.
The housemaid followed a few seconds later and stood beside Wang Yufei with a tray and two cups of warm tea.
Gently and graciously, Wang Yufei grabbed one of the cups with both hands and respectfully presented the tea to Zhang Qin Feng's mother.
"Mother, please have some tea." Wang Yufei said with a face full of smiles. Her tone, gesture, and attitude were the portrayal of a thoughtful daughter-in-law.
"Good daughter, what a good daughter I had." Zhang Qin Feng's mother happily received the tea and took a sip before leaving it at the housemaid's tray. Evidently, she's delighted with Zhang Qin Feng's choice of wife.
Soon, Zhang Qin Feng followed.
"Mother, please have a tea." unlike Wang Yufei, Zhang Qin Feng shows his mother a more mature look different from before.
"En… My Feng-Er is grown up and looking more and more like your father. I'm sure he would be happy too if he knew that you're married to a nice girl like Yufei." his mother said and extended her hand to touch her son's face.
"Hick…" the mother's face was full of smiles, but the mild shaking on her shoulder allowed others to notice how hard she's been trying to hold her tears. But when the hint of relief got the best of her, it defeated the guard she had on her.
"Younger sister, let go of yourself. Xiao-Feng is back, right?" Zhang Qin Feng's uncle said and put his hand on his sister's back.
"Hick… Ah… Look at this old woman… Crying at this age… How unbecoming…" like a piece of boulder the was taken off from her chest, tears started to roll down from her eyes. The sense of happiness and ease came too hard on her as she could no longer control the tears she had.
"Mother," Zhang Qin Feng moved forward on his knees and hugged his mother. Although he can be considered an adult not, there's nothing about planting his head firmly on his mother's chest and listening to her heartbeat.
"I'm home, mother. You don't have to worry about it anymore," said Zhang Qin Feng. This word of his made his mother embraced him tightly. It was evident that she kept herself strong throughout all this time after the bad news about Zhang Qin Feng's death.
After crying for a while, the formality continued with presenting a cup of tea to the uncle. Although these were merely a formality in their culture, something has to be preserved to keep things memorable, such as engagement between two people.
They talked for a while more before both elders returned to their room.
"Do you want to rest or go out to meet Fatty Xie and Tang Xin?" Wang Yufei asked. It seems she already guessed what was in Zhang Qin Feng's mind. Ten minutes later, the couple went out together in one car to meet with his friends.
The following morning, Zhang Qin Feng went to the National Registration Bureau to complete the paperwork regarding his return. Thanks to his position as the acting captain of Tianhe Special Squadron, the procedure went along without a hitch.
And as soon he got the paperwork settled, Zhang Qin Feng immediately made his way towards the tourism-related project situated at the seaside south of Suihe City.
This is the reason why he came to Dongcheng in the first place.
