Chapter 249: Upgrade (2)

"Feng! Are you alright? Where are you right now?" Satella was a little flustered and nervous when she received a call from Zhang Qin Feng out of nowhere. Furthermore, the call came while she was clearing the zombies from getting closer to the base.

"Continue with what you're doing!" Satella ordered before she retreated to the back to speak with Zhang Qin Feng.

"Had you come out from the base? Where are you right now?" Satella inquired. She was worried that Zhang Qin Feng came out from the base on purpose to look for her.

Because from what she knew, the communication signal between them can be differentiated into a few channels. The standalone channel was commonly used within the base, while the operation channel is for the outside team.

Unless Zhang Qin Feng came out and connected to the Operation Channel, it would be impossible for him to get in touch with Satella.

But little that she knew, after Stein's upgrade and reverted to its peak performance, such a matter was no longer an issue for the system to hack and modify the setting. As the brain behind the establishment of Wind Base, Zhang Qin Feng had the right to effortlessly plug into all channels on a whim.

If he wishes, he could even control the lighting and power distribution in the base using the signal tower as the medium to get him connected.

"I'm still in the base. Are you almost done for today?" Zhang Qin Feng asked. Looking at the time, it was about 3pm afternoon right now. In less than 3 hours, the sun will start to set, and nighttime will be here.

When that happened, the situation outside the base will be much more dangerous than before. Furthermore, the issue with the number of zombies cutting down is still cannot be explained.

The progress on securing the motorway is also going slowly, mainly because they had not had enough equipment to move the abandoned vehicles around there. The base has two Reprinter Units right now, but it would be hard to build the third unit without enough processing power.

Hence, they had no other choice but to focus on securing the motorway while waiting for Marvin to allocate one of the Reprinter Units to them. Furthermore, they've yet to count the difficulty of loading the machinery into the truck and delivering it to the frontline.

"I'm at the motorway right now. Should I pull back now and return to the base?" Satella asked. The team hardly has anything to do except moving the smaller vehicles aside to open a path forward. It was like pushing the smaller blocks to the side and leaving the bigger ones for the latter.

But this was not a good idea either.

Without heavy tools to process them, this will end up creating an unstable foundation on both sides. Some parts of the stack would be sturdier, while some would be easier to fell. Without a balance, such a construction was a weak point.

The reason such construction wasn't a good idea was that the zombie's attack came too randomly. They might lack control over their action, but zombies were too good at searching for a weak breaching point.

Coincidence or not, such a trait was always fatal to a base's survival because they can be exploited limitlessly.

"Yes. Pull back for now. We'll be planning for a new operation to capture the motorway and also building an outpost there. I'm thinking of tasking the Heavy-Engineering department to create two vehicles to block the road as we move forward." said Zhang Qin Feng.

"Two vehicles to block the road? Feng… This motorway has four lanes on each side. Added with the emergency lane and the divided, that's an eleven-lane width motorway. Two trucks are far from enough." Satella said.

She thought about using the trucks to block an entire side from the zombies as well. But the cost of doing so was too much. Setting the manpower aside, the experts, number of people, trucks, and everything would take them longer to complete.

"Satella," Zhang Qin Feng called her name again. This time, in a much gentler tone.

"Yes," Satella knows what trick Zhang Qin Feng was going to use. She has been her woman for quite a while and learned all his tricks to keep her in control.

"Come back, then listen to me. I have a suggestion, alright?" Zhang Qin Feng said again. Satella felt that Zhang Qin Feng seems to be much more mature than before for a moment here.

"Alright then. I'll get the team to clear out here and get ready to return." Satella agreed to return after handling the aftermath here.

"Good. I'll wait for you here in the base. We'll be having dinner together tonight with the others." Zhang Qin Feng added before cutting off the communication. His ability to communicate with her without going through the complicating accessing code is still puzzling to Satella.

After the talk with Satella, Zhang Qin Feng continue to do the same to the others. Except for Adam and Frank, who belonged to the Heavy-Engineering Department, Tane, and Shaun, everyone else knew they had dinner with Zhang Qin Feng tonight.

Liam got busy out of a sudden as he had to prepare the meal in advance. Having less than three hours to prepare, he must make sure that everything is ready for everyone when Satella returns.

Everyone was present at the dinner table that night.

Zhang Qin Feng, Satella, Miria, Miriam, and Marvin.

Victor, Valerian, and Liam. Eight of them, seated on this large dining table. Some might not know, but except for Liam, everyone here was the pioneers and people that help to establish the Wind Base and keep improving it until today.

Zhang Qin Feng proposes a toast first, feeling that he should be open with them about something related to him. The wines inside his Dimensional Storage finally had a reason to be opened today.

"I'll be honest with all of you. I am not someone from this world. I came from another dimension where the civilization is different from all of you." Zhang Qin Feng said. This was the first time he was frank with them.

Except for Satella, everyone was staring blankly at him.

Being the one without discipline amongst them, Miria interrupted.

"We all know, DUH!" she shook her head while looking weirdly at Zhang Qin Feng.
