Chapter 62: Beast Wave (2)
The trench dwarves were setting up defense after defense when suddenly the earth underneath them started to shake and the ground seemed to start cracking here and there. As soon as this phenomenon occurred, a scout from on top of the trench mountain shouted out,"Beast wave incoming! Approximately 40 Recutris, 20 Goldnes and a handful of other beasts that I can't recognize!"
Rust and Loominus stood side by side, along with 142 other warriors that would either defend the entrance of the trench or attempt to guide the beast to keep running past them. The latter was more difficult with stronger beasts, so everyone was on extremely high alert.
As the beats that were running towards their home started to get within viewing distance of the normal civilians and non-scouts, the entirety of the tribe was able to see the beasts that were attacking.
First there were the Goldnes, which were large geese-like creatures that were almost twice the trench dwarves' size and were extremely vicious. They had teeth that could bite through the iron spears that Rust had made, as evident by a scout that got killed after one of the beasts literally ATE HIS SPEAR.
Secondly were the large number of Recutris, which were small beasts that resembled armadillos from Jay's past life, except that they were bigger than those and their defensive properties were certainly nothing to scoff at. The good thing about these creatures is that they were usually pretty dumb and could easily be tricked.
Finally, there were at least 5 groups each with 3 to 6 beasts that seemed to have gotten separated from their own species and had instinctually fled with the rest of them. This was not good for the trench dwarves as they had absolutely no idea how to deal with these beasts.
As the beast was roughly 3 minutes away from them, Rust turned to his men and began a speech for them.
"My Dwarfins, today is not our end. We have risen to become powerful in these last few years! We shall stand and defend this entrance to our home! If one dies, then the others have to pick up the slack of the fallen! WE ARE THE MIGHTY! WE ARE THE CHOSEN! WE ARE DWARVES!" Rust said with a passionate fervor as some spittle came from his mouth and fell onto the ground as well as his beard.
The warriors roared back,"MIGHTY! CHOSEN! DWARVES!"
Rust still had some time and so he yelled back,"As you fight, think of what you are defending! Let the faith of those who trust in our ability shine through your weapon! Make every movement count! Take every breath as if it was your last!" Rust yelled out as the beasts almost closed in on them," AND FINALLY! Leave your might on the battlefield as if this was your last act! Make sure when you are received by Sol and the Ultima that you can truly say, 'I WAS A BRAVE WARRIOR OF THE DWARVES AND I DIED AS ONE OF THE MIGHTY!!' "
The warriors and even Loominus roared out as they all got into a defensive position at the same time with,"FOR THE DWARVES!!"
10 seconds after this was said the first beasts arrived in a hurry before Rust and his group, and Loominus screams with all of his power,"KILL!"
The warriors and Rust roared back with their own power as every warrior summoned all of their strength,"KILL!!"
The Goldnes reached them first and Loominus wasted no time, running up a few feet, jumping as high as he could, grasping the new weapon tightly and swinging at the neck of the Goldnes as hard as he could! To the surprise of everyone, the sword sliced through the neck of the Goldnes as if they had absolutely no defense!
10 warriors rushed forwards to support Loominus and thrust all of their spears towards a few Goldnes and Rucutris, stabbing forwards with all their might. Two of the goldnes were impaled and quickly retreated to avoid the weapons.
Now it was Rust's time to shine as he brought out a rudimentary and crude smithing hammer, and dashed to the side and smashed downwards at the Recutris, shattering the shell and killing it instantly with intense strength. Rust had gotten much stronger without realizing it as he continued down his forging journey. Everytime he had crafted something, he hadn't realized that he was building muscle as well as precise and explosive muscle. All of this was revealed at this moment as even Rust was slightly surprised at how easy it was to kill.
Seeing this, Loominus left the Recutris to Rust and his warriors focused on the greatest known threat to them at the moment, the Goldnes. He couldn't afford to pay attention to anything else or he might just lose his life!
Loominus backed up and filtered back into his soldiers as the Goldnes advanced again. He yelled out,"STRIKE!"
The warriors all roared out at the same time,"KILL!" as they thrust their spears with fervor and passion!
Two Goldnes were stabbed in the chest and instantly fell to the ground, dead. The warriors understood at this moment that they absolutely could do this! They could survive!
Loominus then noticed a creature from one the group run up behind and opened its mouth and a strange orange flame appeared within its maw! Loominus yelled out,"ATTACK! Watch your line!" while pointing at the newcomer beast. Loominus had no idea what this beast could do and so simply warned his warriors.
However, before anyone could even realize the creature suddenly shot out a huge plume of fire from its mouth and straight at them!
