Blake looked inside the information that had just flowed into his head and it only took him a few seconds to notice that it was incredibly similar to a status page that he had seen in an internet novel somewhere.

Seeing there were his name, race, level, stats, and even a quest, Blake could only guess that the voice that he heard earlier in his head was some type of AI that would help him get stronger by giving him abilities or rewards by completing the quests that were given to him, or in a layman’s term, it was a system.

“Hey, Blake, why are you spacing out?”

Vera’s voice pulled him back from his head as he blinked and saw the beautiful demoness standing in front of him.

He wanted to know more about the status page that he had just been given such as what was a darkness demon, why there were three dots in front of his name, and what was bloodline power, but since he was currently still talking with Vera, he decided to check them out later when he wasn’t doing anything else.

“Nothing, I just felt... different after eating my very first soul.” He answered.

“Of course. Because it’s your first soul, you would feel your body getting much stronger. But after this, you will need more than just one soul to feel your strength increase significantly again, and after that, you need even more soul and it keeps on creating the more times you feel the strength in your body increase.”

Upon hearing Vera’s explanation, Blake took a glance at the status information in his head again and realized that he was now level 1 and had 5 unused stats.

‘Does the significant strength increase translate to leveling up? Does she mean that I need more souls to level up each time?’ He wondered in his head.

‘Speaking of level up, how many souls do I need to level up to level 2?’

[0/5 Souls gathered for the next level up.] The unknown voice resounded again in his head.

‘Yup... this is definitely some kind of system.’ Blake thought as he heard the mechanical voice again.

‘And 5 souls eh? I didn’t see the other wolves’ souls earlier, so does that mean I can take them to level up again? But Vera was the one that killed the rest of them, I think she would have wanted the souls for herself...’

‘But I think I can also take this one!’

“Umm... Vera, can I also take its soul?” Blake asked while pointing at the other wolf that was still barely alive under the clutches of the darkness tendrils.

“Sure, you can take it,” Vera said without a single second delay.

After getting her confirmation, Blake quickly drew the runes to summon the sharp darkness tendrils to pierce through the other wolf.

His rune drawing speed impressed Vera, the original creator of the spell since she was certain that she couldn’t draw it that fast the first few times when she had just completed the spell, but Blake was able to do it half as fast as her current casting speed after only a few tries.

She then looked at the sharp tendrils of darkness that appeared from the ground beneath the incapacitated wolf and it bore holes through the wolf in only a second.

‘His darkness element is unimaginably thick for someone who has only eaten one soul...’ She thought before speaking again,

“Blake, why don’t you try casting the spell again, but this time, try to focus on the wolf’s head while you are drawing the runes. The more focused you are, the better it is.”

Blake then nodded his head before once again started drawing the runes, and just like Vera had instructed her, instead of putting his focus on the wolf as a whole, Blake focused solely on the wolf’s head, and the nether in his body received his intention, recorded them before being put into the demonic runes that he was drawing.

Upon the runes’ completion, it disappeared just like normal, and in the next second, the sharp darkness tendrils appeared again under the wolf’s body, but this time, the darkness tendrils all focused on one spot, and that was the wolf’s head.

Before, when he cast the spell, the darkness tendrils were spread all over the wolf’s body, but after he followed Vera’s instruction, the darkness tendrils converged into one thick darkness tendrils that were half as big as his own body, and it completely skewered the wolf’s head, swiftly taking its life and revealing the dark glowing soul orb from its body.

And now that he had done his first time, doing it the second time wasn’t hard anymore and Blake just casually grabbed the soul and swallowed it again.

Blake nodded his head while pondering about a few things simultaneously in his head.

Vera looked at Blake who was seemingly thinking hard about something and since she wanted to know more about him and also being the victim of a bad parent, she wanted to ask the demon whether there was anything she could help him with.

But before she was able to ask, Blake suddenly turned his head towards her, stared at her eyes, and with a determined look, he started speaking,

“Vera”

“Yes?”

“Truthfully, I am still confused about how I suddenly ended up in this world. And I know nothing about this world. But I somehow feel like I belong here...”

“Back in my own world, I lived every day thinking about how I don’t belong there. Although there were some moments where I could feel my heart at ease, most of the days I’ve lived there were torture. Being the only one who was different from them, I always felt weak and inferior to them.”

“But here... This is the first time in my entire life that I have ever felt like I could actually do something.”

Most people wouldn’t understand the meaning behind Blake’s words. But for the duds, and for the people that were living their entire life being pressed down by others, others that had won the birth lottery and never earned their own perks, they would at least know what Blake meant.

Just because he was born without the ability to use mana, the people around him that could use mana always look at him as an inferior being. And when he did excel above them, they went and beat him up just to comfort their ego and cement Blake’s position as someone who should stand beneath their feet.

He might have gotten some power now, but what did that really mean? It means a lot to him. Here, he could cast spells, something that he was begging and desperate to do in the early days when all kids his age were able to do it, and he was the only one who couldn’t do it.

He then defeated the two wolves with his own abilities, something that would have never happened back in his own world where even a grade school student could injure him greatly if they used a magic spell.

The sense of belonging that he felt in this completely unknown new world stemmed from his heart, his heart that yearned for the feelings that he felt right now, and his heart that was finally able to get what it desperately wanted for years of his life.

“Vera, can you please teach me more about the runes...”

“And can I please live here, in this world, together with you?”
