Chapter 11: Beginner Runemaster

“Well... That’s quite... surprising.” Vera said as she stared at the crystal ball in Blake’s hands.

The crystal ball was supposed to be crystal clear, but once Blake held onto it and poured in the nether from his body, the crystal ball had turned completely black on every inch of it, the same color as his current skin and his hair.

“What does this mean, Vera?” Blake asked while looking at the black crystal ball in his hands.

“That means you have a very, very high affinity for the darkness element, an unusually high amount. But...” freewebnovel(.)com

“But...?”

“But that’s it. You only have the darkness affinity. You don’t have any other affinity besides the darkness element. Which was weird considering most demons have at least two affinities, especially the ones who have a high affinity for the darkness elements, they could even have more than 1 other affinity besides the darkness element. Yours is a very special case.” Vera explained.

Blake heaved a sigh as he realized that he wouldn’t be able to cast as many spells as he wanted and be limited with only the darkness element spells, but for someone who used to be unable to cast any kinds of spells, Blake was already content with being able to cast one type of element. It’s just quite disappointing for him, but nothing more than that.

.....

Seeing Blake’s face visibly lost a bit of its vigor, Vera comforted him by saying,

“Don’t worry, Blake. With your talent in memorizing runes and that high affinity for darkness element, even higher than mine, you would still be able to be a powerful demon mage. And not to say that you will definitely be the best runemaster out there once you learn more runes from the deeper realm considering what you’ve made with those basic rune formations this past week.”

“We basically have our own talented beginner runemaster at home.” She said while patting Blake’s shoulder.

“Thanks for the motivation, Vera. Don’t worry, I’m not that worried about it. It’s not like the darkness element is weak. It is the basic element for a reason, you can do a lot of things with it, it’s very versatile, I like it very much, actually.”

Blake then returned the crystal ball that could check one’s affinities back to Vera before heading out of the basement that Vera used to do her magic experiment while asking,

“I will hunt for dinner after I fix some things, do you have anything you want for today?”

“Fried boar with sweet and spicy sauce will do,” Vera replied after putting back the crystal ball into a compartment under her desk.

“You’ve eaten the same thing for the past three days, are you not bored of it?” Blake asked, stopping in his tracks as he looked at Vera with a questioning gaze.

“No.” She replied instantly without a shred of hesitation in her voice.

“Understandable, have a nice day.”

Outside Vera’s house, Blake was squatting in the midst of the beautiful flowers and plants that were all around him. It has been a week since he had been living together with Vera in her house, but he still couldn’t stop admiring how beautiful the garden was as they only looked more and more mesmerizing after each passing day.

But what he was currently doing was not simply admiring the garden from a low perspective.

“The base formation to write the runes was already correct, and the other runes should also be in the right place. I’ve tested them before, and they should all be balanced, so why did it not work?” Blake mumbled as his hands didn’t stop tinkering with the object that was placed on the ground in front of him.

Seemingly searching for an answer from the object in front of him, Blake picked up the round object that was hemisphere-shaped or just like a ball cut in half and brought it up to see the whole thing.

Blake went through all the notes and books that Vera had given him about the runes that were available to use in the first demon realm and tried to think of the reason why his rune formation had failed to work.

After a full minute of racking his brain, Blake finally found the answer and started drawing more runes in the object that carried his own original rune formation.

“Of course, it would fail! I forgot to connect the output with each other, hence why the water only came out of the middle hole despite there being many other holes that the water could go through.”

“Now this should fix it for good.” Blake nodded his head while placing the object back onto the ground.

Blake then connected the object with a hose that was made from the demonic beasts’ intestines which were surprisingly as tough as the rubber that he knew back in his world, before drawing the activation rune for the rune formation.

Blake then ran over to the water container that he had set up at the side of the garden and asked Vera to make it able to store more water with her space rune formation so that it didn’t ruin the aesthetic of the garden.

The other end of the hose was connected to this water container by another cylindrical-shaped object that was also Blake’s original rune formation, and by drawing a simple activation rune, Blake activated the rune formation on the cylindrical object and water started pouring out from the water container into the cylindrical part, before going into the hose.

Inside the cylindrical part was a simple rune formation that uses the dark element to manifest a simple piston that pushed the water from the water container into the hose with great pressure, and through the hose, the water traveled into the half-ball object in the middle of the flowers and plants before going out of it through the small holes on top of the thing while the hemispherical object was spinning and distributing the water everywhere on to the plants in the garden.

“Now that’s what I like to see, a two-day of work and sweat finally bearing fruit for me.” Blake smiled with satisfaction as he saw his own homemade semi-automatic watering system for Vera’s garden working properly.

After Vera started teaching him more about runes and rune formations, he fell in love with the idea of creating his own original spells and of course, his own rune formations, and Blake had begun experimenting with them without stopping ever since day-2. He had made a fan that uses nether as its power, he also made an automatic chopping board for cutting vegetables, and now he was tackling a more complicated project such as making a semi-automatic garden watering system.

It actually only take him about an hour to test out the runes that he wrote on both the cylindrical part and the hemispherical part, but it became a two-day long project because it was the time that he needed to gather up the ingredients to make the hose and the two parts that he needed to write his rune formation on.

After letting the contraption work and stopping on its own after it had used up the nether that he supplied to it, Blake nodded his head once again before walking outside the garden towards the edge of Vera’s isolated space.

On the side of creating his rune formations projects, Blake was also thinking about creating a new spell, but he kept it a secret from Vera as he wanted to surprise her by showing a completed spell, something that might even be useful for her.

And after a few days of theorizing and small testing here and there while he hunted for their dinner, today, Blake was ready to test out the completed spell.

‘Creating an original spell is surely hard. Hope this time it works without fail.’ He wished inwardly. fr(e)ewebn(o)vel

Blake drew the runes to open the door from the isolated space into the outside world, and the dark portal appeared once more in front of him.

Before going out, Blake checked his status by thinking about it, and the information appeared in his head.

——–

Name:...Blake

Race: Juvenile Darkness Demon

Level:4 (6/15)

Stats:

Physique: 10

Spirit: 20

Unused: 0

Quest:

+(Main) Get to level 5 and unlock your bloodline power!

——–

Looking at the required souls that he needed to level up to level 5 and finish his first quest, Blake thought to himself,

‘I might as well grind this until I level up... I wonder what this bloodline power is and what new power it will give me...’

Before stepping out of the portal, Blake made sure that he brought the bag that Vera had given him to store the demonic beast meat that he had defeated and his own water bottle so that he would be able to stay outside for long without worrying about getting dehydrated. And after everything checks out, he finally took a step into the dark portal, going outside to the forest full of demonic beasts which were also the guinea pigs for his new spell.
