Chapter 18: ‘Statuses’

“What the… Hell?”, asked Khal with confusion as he looked at his bracelet on his wrist.

Around the iron object, white light started to manifest, and with slow-motion small words started to form one after another.

After a small while when the light formed 4 sentences around his bracelet, they started to float around his wrist slowly.

Khal seeing this was totally shocking. The sight before him was very similar to those devices from those futuristic movies from his past life, but with the only difference that the words were not holograms but pure white light.

The light itself was hovering around his wrist in the form of words, which was crazy!

<<‘Personal’ Status>>

<<‘Essence’ Status>>

<<‘Power Core’ Status>>

<<‘Obtainer’ Status>>

Seeing the words ‘Statuses’ floated next to each other slowly around his wrist, Khal was a little bit amazed. He wanted to touch the first ‘Status’ to check what will happen, but to his surprise, his finger just simply went through the light.

“Eh?”, was the only thing Khal could say, when he found out no matter how much he touched the words, they were simple light particles and nothing more.

They were not like those smartphones from his past life where a simple touch was able to send him into the next screen, which amazed him quite a bit.

[Please choose the ‘Status’ you want to see!]

The moment Khal heard the voice in his head again, he lowered his hand and asked himself, “If I can’t make it to work through touch, then will it work with a thought?”

As he said this, he said thought instantly, “I want to see ‘Personal’ Status.”

Instantly as those words appeared in his mind, the light around his bracelet moved again, and instantly they formed new words.

But this time they didn’t appear around his bracelet and wrist, but instead above his hand, under each other, similar to those data screens in video games.

{‘Personal’ Status}

• Cultivation Talent: Talentless (Met Requirements)

• Hidden Talent: Lost (Met Requirements)

• Cultivation Grade: None (Met Requirements)

“What the actual f….”

Khal looked at the three pieces of information under each other and turned speechless.

It was not because of the fact that it stated he had no Cultivation Talent or Grade because those two were only natural.

If one had no Cultivation Talent, that meant one couldn’t start cultivating, so one was unable to reach the first Stage in this world.

He didn’t know clearly what the Grades were or how many there were, but he clearly knew that if one obtains a Cultivation Talent, one will automatically reach the First Grade.

No, the fact why he was completely troubled was because there was a single piece of information he didn’t understand no matter how many times he read it.

“What is this ‘Hidden Talent’ lost?”, mumbled Khal quietly not knowing what that sentence should mean at all.

After a few seconds of wasteful thinking, he just scratched his cheek with his index finger and thought, “Well… It’s not like I will get an answer if I think, won’t I?”

Waiting for the voice to talk in his head hoping he would get the answer, Khal waited for a few seconds, but there was nothing.

“Then let’s see what the other ‘Statuses’ can show me.”, said Khal and wanted to open the next ‘Status’ when suddenly the door on the side opened.

“You are awake!”

Hearing the sudden voice, Khal hid his hand below the blanket, fearing the one walking in would see his bracelet.freewebnovel(.)com

However, he didn’t need to feel anxious at all, because the moment he lowered his hand, the light around his wrist vanished, making the bracelet to turn back to normal in no time at all.

“Huh? Are you alright?”

Khal raised his head again after hearing the same voice again, only to see Liza’s standing figure next to his bed with two other people in white robes behind her.

Looking at them, Khal smiled gently and nodded.

“Much bett-.”, started to say Khal, however just before he could have finished his reply, he suddenly found himself in Liza’s tight embrace.

Surprised by the sudden change of events, Khal didn’t know how to react, but then he heard Liza’s trembling voice.

“She… She has died… And I couldn’t help at all… I thought… I will… I will…”

Hearing Liza’s shaking voice, Khal felt as his heart had been pierced with several thorns and knives.

Maybe he was in this world for only a few days and met with Liza only for a small amount of time, but everything about her made Khal think she was not Liza, but his past girlfriend Nancy.

Her behavior, her voice, and her appearance. Everything about her made Khal think that she was Nancy instead of an unknown person, a stranger.

And just because of this alone, when he saw Liza sad like that, he felt an incredible amount of pain too. It was like the one who was hurt was not her, but instead him.

Without saying anything, Khal closed his eyes and after hugging Liza too, he let her cry herself out.

Time ticked by, and just only several minutes later did Liza stop crying and stepped back from Khal’s hug.

Seeing her wet eyes and red nose, Khal chuckled slightly and took a tissue from his side and gave it to Liza.

“Here.”, said Khal with a gentle smile as he handed the tissue over to her.

As Liza saw Khal’s kind gesture sniffed slightly and after taking away the tissue she nodded.

“Thanks…”

While watching as she gently blew her nose out on the side, Khal glanced at the doctors behind Liza and said politely, “It’s my pleasure.”

“Please don’t be so formal.”, said the man in the white robe on the side, and after stepping closer to Khal he asked, “My name is Jake. I’m working here in Moon City’s hospital and I’m in charge to check on your condition. How are you feeling? Any pain or uncomfortable feeling that you feel unnatural?”

Khal looked at his body and after a small while he shrugged slightly and said, “I guess everything is alright. Except for some pain here and there, I feel perfectly fine.”

The man called Jake nodded and said, “That is perfect then. However, before we do anything else, this man here wants to ask you a few questions about the incident that happened a week ago.”

“What? A week ago?!”, asked Khal with widened eyes, not believing to his ears.

“Yes indeed. Exactly a week ago, after the incident that occurred at the outer district of Moon City, your friend was the one who looked for help and that is how you have been brought here. Since then, you were in a very deep slumber, without us knowing if you will survive or not.”

“My life was in danger?”, asked Khal confusedly.

“Yes. For some reason, your vitality had reached the bottom line of the dead zone. Several experts with healing powers came in and tried to help you, but all of them has failed in the end. The reason? It was because of the lack of essence in your body.”

Hearing this, Khal remembered that before he fell unconscious, the voice said that the Essence inside his body has reached 0. So the reason behind that should be quite obviously because of that.

After thinking for a while, Khal looked at the side where another man was standing in a whitish and silverish robe, and asked, “Is he a doctor too?”

Jake hearing this smiled slightly and after waving his hand he said, “Ah no, he is not. He is from the Cultivator’s Organization. He only came here to find out what truly happened behind the incident.”
