Chapter 366: Bigger Problems Then She Anticipated

"Oh," she said finally. "You want to marry me in front of people!" she cheered.

He chuckled and shook his head in disbelief. "I love to show off our relationship. Why wouldn't I? I just want the day to be something you want and not a production team. Can you make sure you stick to it?" he asked.

She nodded with abandon. "Yes, hubby! Let's get married." She giggled and clapped.

It was set. From the gentle expression, she could see that he wasn't doing it because she wanted to, but because he really wanted to get married to her. He wanted to have pictures of her dressed to impress with him by her side. He didn't know what kind of wedding she would choose. But he was looking forward to it.

The phone call she had expected during Saturday was postponed because the external auditor came across a roadblock.

When the call came, Qian Meng leaped to take it.

She logged into the video call on her laptop and looked at the auditor. The man looked stoic as he prepared the documents to show her.

"You wanted to update me?" Qian Meng asked when they had settled.

"Yes, I found something significantly problematic," he said.

Qian Meng nodded. "What is the problem? Give me a short explanation and I can find out the rest from the report you produce," she informed him.

"Apart from the areas that I was initially looking into, I found some strange transactions made."

Qian Meng frowned. "Are these the companies associated with the shareholders?"

The other shook his head. "I was actually looking into all the contracts and financial reports and I found the one with Yun Corporation," he said quietly.

Qian Meng stiffened. "There is a problem with Yun Corporation?" she asked.

She remembered how her father had reacted when she broke the news of her takeover. He was protecting his weakness so fiercely that he had shown where it was hidden.

She had expected something of this sort of misdeed on her father's part, but the expression on the auditor's face told her that the issue was far worse than she had anticipated.

"I was going through the orders and the financials of each transaction. The balance sheets look proper at first look, but on closer inspection, I could tell that someone was tweaking the numbers."

The balance sheet did come up. The segments that were highlighted were easy to spot and Qian Meng quickly went over them. Even without knowing the full details, she could see that there was something odd.

She furrowed her brow.

"Can you go into depth about this? I have an invested interest in the Yun Corporation, as you know," she said formally. She didn't have to.

The auditor nodded. "If you look at the third line," he showed it separately for her benefit. "You will see a massive amount of purchase of metal pipes for the foundation."

She could see it.

"You will also see the price paid. But when I correlated it with outgoing orders and payments received, it didn't match up."

Qian Meng gulped.

"Were the purchases and payment lower than written or more?" If it were lower, the tactic was being used to forge financial statements and dupe the shareholders of Yun Corporation into thinking that the company was doing well. If it was more, it was tax fraud.

"It was considerably lower," the auditor admitted.

Qian Meng let out a shuddering breath.

She had a five percent equity stake in Yun Corporation. Manipulation of the financial books meant that there were discrepancies in the total capital possessed by the company, the profits shown were not at par.

Even the shareholders were losing out on what they thought was money they had.

"And this trend follows?" Qian Meng asked finally.

The auditor nodded. "It doesn't look that bad on paper, but when taking into consideration how big Yun Corporation is and the discrepancy in numbers, the result is… shocking to say the least."

Qian Meng squeezed her eyes shut. "Understood," she said finally. "I will need you to send these financial bits to me as soon as possible. I will have to carry out my own investigation into what is happening." She paused. "Otherwise, please continue with the rest of the issues you found."

The auditor calmly explained everything else. He couldn't see a great reaction in Qian Meng's face and was mildly in awe of how strong this woman was. Or maybe she had known there would be an issue.

He explained everything and before he cut the call, he had to say, "I will send over the issues in two separate emails."

Qian Meng nodded before hanging up the call. It was Sunday evening and she had to work tomorrow.

She saw Mo Qingchen entering the room from the corner of her eyes and turned to him with a small smile.

"Done with the call?" he asked passively as he came to sit beside her on the bed.

"Yeah…"

He looked at her intently. "There are bigger issues than you anticipated?" he asked.

Qian Meng nodded. "Thank god I took over the company and did an external audit." She shuddered.

"Is this about your dad? Something to do with the deal with Bai Ye Qing?" he asked.

Qian Meng nodded. "You must have figured it out. What do you think?" She explained what the auditor had said.

Mo Qingchen thought about it for a moment before answering. "I suppose your father is incurring losses and doesn't want the world to know because it hurts his pride." When he remembered Yun Sui Bo's demands in this life and the past one, he had an inkling about what it could be.

"That is why he kept pressing for kids," he said. "Once the kid was born, he wanted to use the child to take Venus."

Qian Meng frowned. "That makes no sense."

"It wouldn't be the first time that a father has done something of the sort. I think the plan was to make you give everything to the kid and then get custody."

Qian Meng grew more confused. "With both the parents alive, that couldn't have been the case."
