Chapter 223: Punish Her for Crimes She Hasn't Committed Yet

He sighed and took Bai Ye Qing back to his holding cell.

At the final moment, Bai Ye Qing spoke up. "Is what he said true?" he asked.

The officer looked at him dispassionately. "Never been in jail," he said with a shrug and walked away. If someone knew they were going to have a horrible life, they would go to great lengths to make it stop. The officer just didn't want more paperwork on his hands.

Qian Meng was outside, talking to the team leader.

"Apologies for not resolving the issue," Qian Meng said.

"Oh, it's nothing. Asking her for permission was a long shot anyway. But if you can quickly give us permission to exhume the body, we can call the cemetery and get permission from them, as well," the officer said.

"Right. How long will the autopsy results take to come out after that?" she asked.

The officer winced. "If it's not a high-priority case, it is usually pushed back. Moreover, the victim has been dead for a while. To test for the medication, it will take a longer time. The labs will have to work harder."

Qian Meng looked down. "Is there any way to make it quicker?" she asked. She wanted closure for herself and Uncle Bai.

The officer shook his head. "There are a lot of active cases right now. But don't worry. He can't be bailed out and we have enough information on the matter to not let him out."

Qian Meng nodded. "Excellent. Then I will talk to Mr. Bai and give you the forms with explicit permission to exhume the body."

"Ah! Mr. Mo is talking to one of the suspected accomplices," the officer said. "Would you like to inform him that you are leaving?" she asked.

"Oh, he is still talking? I'll just wait for him," she said.

The officer nodded. "I'll lead you to the room. You can wait outside," he said politely.

She turned to the lawyers. "Li Jun, thanks for coming down again. Hopefully, we won't see each other again this month," she said calmly. There was a hint of amusement in her voice too.

"No problem. Just call me if something pops up," he responded.

"Miss Yun, I am sure Mr. Bai told you about the gift, did he not?" he asked.

"He did. It has arrived?" He nodded. "Then you can go ahead and have Mr. Bai take care of the procedure. I'll be there with my fiancé when he is done," she assured.

The older gentleman nodded. She didn't see them out. Instead, she followed the officer to where he said Mo Qingchen would be.

The guard outside nodded. "They just went inside a few minutes ago. I don't think they are talking yet," he said.

The officer sighed before turning to Qian Meng. "Miss Yun, you can sit here or you could sit inside the observation room. The microphones are all turned off."

So, this was following procedure. She couldn't hear anything that was said. Moreover, Mo Qingchen's back would be faced towards her. Qian Meng was a little dissatisfied, but the wild child in her reared its head.

She could eavesdrop on him a little bit.

"Would that be okay?" she asked.

"It won't be an issue. There isn't a formal interview going on. Mr. Mo just wanted to talk to the person. Moreover, I don't think Mr. Mo would sue you for eavesdropping," the officer said with a smile.

Qian Meng couldn't hold back her laughter. "Indeed, he won't sue me. Or so I hope," she added with a sly grin.

She was led inside and took a seat. Qian Meng was surprised to see who Mo Qingchen was talking to. It was not Chen Yue. Instead, it was the girlfriend… Jia Ai.

"Why is he…" she trailed off. Her eyes traveled to Mo Qingchen's back and she could see he was not speaking.

Inside the room, Jia Ai was eyeing Mo Qingchen like a piece of candy. She didn't know why she had been made to talk to this person but from the expensive clothes he was wearing and his demeanor, he wasn't a common man.

He looked better than most of those idol drama actors. And he looked like he was about to eat her alive. She didn't mind that notion one bit. After the soft and accommodating presence of Bai Ye Qing, she was also curious why people liked the cold and dangerous men for themselves.

Now, she could see why.

"Enjoying the view?" Mo Qingchen asked finally. His voice was so low that she barely noticed it as she swam through her fantastic thinking.

"Sorry?" she said, stumped for further words.

"Enjoy it. I don't bring you any good news," he said without reserve.

"I… d—" she stopped, confused.

"I'm not a fan of the justice system. They don't do enough to punish people who deserve it," Mo Qingchen announced. "Of course, they can't punish you for something you haven't done yet. But I can," he said firmly.

Jia Ai's eyes widened in shock. "Sir… I don't understand what you mean."

"Whatever plea deal you are going to take. However ignorant you try to pretend to be, you will spend some time in jail." He looked her over. "You're someone who adapts to situations well, so you might get out of prison because you were on your best behavior." Another thing he hated immensely. "But I can ensure something," he said finally.

"What?" she whispered.

"When you come out of prison, you will not get any jobs." He placed his hand on the table, his eyes piercing. "The hospital already knows that you squeezed out drugs from their premises. The patients who didn't get their painkillers after their surgeries... they know everything about it."

He was beyond attractive, but she was sure she would die. How he restrained his urges, she didn't know, but she was thankful for his 'civility.'

"The hospital will try to hush it up, but you will be thrown out of the profession. Your license will be taken away. But that is not all," he added quietly.
