Chapter 222: All For a Woman

"Did you really think you would be happy marrying her? That she would be happy?" he asked. "I wonder what you would have done. Asked her to help you learn how the business world works. Kill your father and take over the company before slowly wringing her dry."

Bai Ye Qing startled. "Mr. Mo…"

"Yes, tell me. What is your excuse?" he asked. "I know all about the second apartment you bought in the same building. That was where Jia Ai was supposed to live, wasn't it? And if Qian Meng got in your way… you would kill her."

Bai Ye Qing gulped. "I don't know what you are talking about."

This meeting wasn't about Mo Qingchen showing him his place. It was more about Mo Qingchen seeing the threat is extinguished. He wanted to unburden all his thoughts on a man who couldn't fight back.

"Yun Sui Bo made a pact with you. Venus would go to him once Qian Meng gave birth to a child, right?" He tilted his head to the side. "And you planned on not allowing a child to see the light of the world. A good plan, really. A miserable fool like Yun Sui Bo would actually think you are incapable of doing something like that."

Bai Ye Qing understood what this was about. So, he tucked his head and listened. He didn't want to anger someone of this caliber.

"But this time, you got found out." Mo Qingchen let out a laugh. This sloppy bastard had gotten away with so much last time that he couldn't believe it. It made him think everyone was incompetent. With good reason.

"I'm not sure if you are lucky to get caught or not," he commented.

Bai Ye Qing's head jerked up. "What do you mean?" he asked.

Mo Qingchen smiled. "I checked. You have running debts with a lot of people. But they might not touch you when you are in jail. But think about all the high-profile people you sold drugs to. The drugs, the little felonies you committed. What will they think now that you are being investigated?" he asked.

"I… don't understand." He really didn't. He had never thought of the consequences of associating with rich and dangerous people. Things that could come to bite him in the ass.

"The police always want information about the dangerous people you associate with. And now they will think you spilled. And what happens to snitches, Bai Ye Qing?" He leaned forward, his demeanor threatening.

"…Snitches?" he asked, his voice shaking.

"Yes, they end up in ditches, don't they?" He smiled. "But good thing, you are going to jail. They might not get their hands on you." And then, Mo Qingchen raised his brow. "Wait. Dangerous people have acquaintances in jail, don't they?" he whispered.

"Are you threatening me?" Bai Ye Qing asked in a small voice. His eyes drifted towards the officer and an idea formed in his head. "Help! He is threatening me!"

The officer didn't even look at him. Mo Qingchen sneered. "You really are stupid. I am telling you what your life will look like from now on. No matter if you take a plea deal or you tell the police about everything you did, you won't be safe. You will look over your shoulder for the rest of your hellish life and wonder when you will be cornered and killed."

"That will not happen," Bai Ye Qing said confidently.

"Is that so? Do you have magical powers? Or do you think you can convince those people that you didn't snitch? You spoke to the police… and if your time in jail isn't long… you're over." The wicked grin on Mo Qingchen's face sent a chill down Bai Ye Qing's spine. His confidence slowly seeped out of his body.

"If you want protective custody, your lawyer will have to apply for it. But no lawyer in this city or country will take your case. The public defender has so much on their plate that they won't worry about you too much. You'll be all alone, wondering when the ball will drop. What a wonderful life," Mo Qingchen ended sarcastically.

"Why are you doing this to me?" Bai Ye Qing asked finally.

"What am I doing to you? Do you think a pathetic piece of shit is worth my time? I haven't done anything to you. This is what you reap for the things you have done." His face turned stoic. After this moment, he would never see Bai Ye Qing again. He would make sure to find out how his life went, but he would never let this man come out of jail.

That was the end of this matter.

"But why…" he whispered.

"You tried to scam my little sister. You threatened my fiancé and you had every intention of killing her. You took someone's life and were on the way to kill another person. It's not about me… you're just a horrible person. You have this coming to you."

Mo Qingchen stood up from his seat and looked down at him. "Goodbye, Bai Ye Qing. I hope to never see you again."

Those were his final words. He turned and left the room. At the last moment, he politely nodded to the officer before going out.

The officer sagged with relief after he walked out. He turned to Bai Ye Qing and shuddered. What Mo Qingchen had said was true. Mo Qingchen didn't need to do anything to hurt this man. Instead, by association, he would be pestered for all his life.

The officer didn't even want to imagine the situation.

But the tone of Mo Qingchen's voice was what scared him. This man… this powerful man… the way he spoke about it sounded so cold that he would have believed he didn't care. But he also heard how happy Mo Qingchen would be if he heard Bai Ye Qing was hurt beyond belief.

And all for a woman.

Now that was just terrifying.
