Chapter 204: Away From Prying Eyes

"Mm. Remember that medicine I asked you to bring home before?" he asked quietly.

"Which one?" she responded. To an onlooker, they were talking about something banal, but to those that knew, it was evident that Bai Ye Qing used Jia Ai as an outlet to get drugs. She had access to all these highly addictive drugs. And god knows what he was doing with them.

"The relaxant," he informed her. "Could you bring me one?" He used Jia Ai as a free store for all medication.

She quietened down. "Sure. But when do you want it?" Her voice was level despite being in the company of others.

"I'll come over when you have it. Can you give it to me tonight?"

"Why do you need it?" It wasn't that she needed to know. She was more curious. He usually asked her to bring painkillers and things of that nature. The only other time he had asked for it… "Did something happen at home?"

Bai Ye Qing sighed. "You don't need to know why I need it." It was possible deniability if they were found out. It was highly flattering that he didn't want her to be caught. Some would call it love, others would see it for what it is. She was his supplier and if someone caught on to what she was doing, his outlet would be lost.

Maybe he loved her because of what she brought to the table. Mostly undetectable murder weapons. Who would not love her?

"My father expelled me from the company and sold it," he told her shortly.

She sucked in a panicked breath. "I have a break in three hours," she told him reassuringly. "Don't worry about it. Just meet me and then get a good night's sleep."

The others around her looked at her curiously. When she hung up, her colleagues asked her what was wrong.

"My boyfriend is having a hard time at work. He feels better when he sees me, so he wants to drop by," she chuckled nervously.

The others shrugged, not worrying about it.

The hours ticked by and finally, the call came in. "I am in the parking lot," he whispered.

She told everyone she was going on break. She hit the packet of syringe and medicine under her clothes and walked out of the exit. Once in the parking lot, she looked around to find him. In the dead of the night, this parking lot was eerie. She feared being here. One never knew what could happen.

But the most nefarious deal tonight was the one she was making. She spotted Bai Ye Qing leaning against his car, parked in the darkest corner of the parking lot, away from the prying eyes of anyone who would pass.

She looked around nervously and when she saw no signs of life around her, she trotted over to him.

"Are you sure about this?" she asked slowly. She pulled the hem of her shirt up and tugged at the paper bag tucked into the elastic of her pant. "I got it for you. But do you want to rethink this?" she asked.

Her voice was neither low nor loud.

But to the man sitting in the passenger seat of the car parked in the opposite lane, the voice could be heard. He was leaning back into the seat so that the two could not see him. Moreover, his dashboard camera was working perfectly, picking up the interaction.

He opened the window and perked his ear to listen to the conversation.

"Just give it to me," Bai Ye Qing growled. He snatched the packet from her and got in. Once inside, he rolled down his window. "I'll call you tomorrow," he said gruffly.

She watched as he pulled out the car from the parking space. She slowly walked back towards the lighted path, wondering what this would change in her life.

She was already inside the hospital when someone approached her.

"Excuse me," the man said. She looked up and put on her best smile, ready to assist the man in case he was a patient or someone's guarding.

"Yes, do you need help?" she asked politely.

"Yes, I would like to ask you some questions," he told her slowly. He pulled out his badge and showed it to her. Her eyes flickered to it and her guilty conscience made her go stiff with panic.

"Me?" she squeaked.

"We are investigating someone and we need your cooperation in the matter," the officer informed her.

She looked around to see if anyone was watching and shook her head. "I know that the bad guys come with fake badges all the time. I'm sorry, I won't speak to you," she said quickly.

The officer, who was dressed plainly tilted his head to the side. "If you want someone in police uniform to come and escort you to the police station, I will call them in," he said slowly.

He watched as she panicked and then nodded. She had weighed in her options. Whatever they wanted to talk to her about, she would answer them. "Bring in the cops in uniform. I won't just look at the badge and go with you," she told him.

The officer nodded. "Ma'am, you watch too much television," he told her. He kept an eye on her as he called the police officers in. On the other hand, the man in the car had shifted into the driver's seat and followed Bai Ye Qing back to the apartment complex. He waited patiently for the person to move but he didn't. The light in his apartment went off.

Jia Ai was taken into the police station and questioned.

She was forthcoming, to say the least. She didn't work well under pressure. She told them about Bai Ye Qing asked for drugs.

"What did you give him today?" the officer asked.

"He… he asked for a muscle relaxant." She gave a name. The officer controlled his horror and nodded.
