Chapter 227 - Changes

Is that person stupid? A member of an underground organization stealing things without being careful... maybe she’ll have to rethink her impression of their intelligence?

Xiu Mei silently mumbled while she continued listening to her husband as he carefully answered all her questions. She pondered seriously, not even bothering whether her husband had truly told her everything(he did not), as she tried to recount all the accidents she had been in the past months.

Well, it was quite eventful.

Almost getting kidnapped in the company’s parking lot and getting caught by Ying Wan Wan and almost gotten herself killed by a snake while running away.

Then her trauma worsens causing her to be mute temporarily.

Hmm, she truly pitied her luck. Destiny must have thought getting kidnapped once wasn’t enough, so he tried to attack her two more times before bestowing another form of punishment upon her.

She wondered. Did she perhaps do something very terrible in her previous life that’s why she was being punished by the gods at this lifetime?

Ah, her focus is straying away.

After dropping off their son, the couple returned to the hospital and Xiu Mei finally learned how terrible his eldest brother’s situation was when he first came. She sat across the glass window where she could see his brother lying down on the bed, while Lu Chen sat beside her holding her hand tightly with his free hand while working with something on his laptop on the other.

"Princess, Mr.Lu." Doctor Lee appeared on his doctor’s coat as he approached them. Xiu Mei’s eyes subconsciously trembled at the sight of her psychologist feeling slightly worried.

Would he advise her to stay away since it wasn’t appropriate with her current situation?

Doctor Lee glanced at sleeping Xiu Min’s direction for a moment before turning to the anxious little girl that was his patient. Without asking her, he could understand her thoughts. He rubbed her head, "Your brother won’t be taken down by this. Just like how you always wake up every time, your brother won’t let you down either."

The haze in Xiu Mei’s eyes faded quite a bit listening to his words. Her hand holding Lu Chen’s tightened, as she forced a smile and nodded.

Doctor Lee glanced at the guy looking at him quite coldly, glaring at the hand that was on the little princess’s head. He suppressed his chuckle as he signaled him with his eyes that he needs to have a word with him.

A few minutes after he left, Lu Chen stood up.

There were quite a few people around so Xiu Mei was still having psychological difficulties talking so she asked with her eyes, ’Where are you going?’

Lu Chen showed her a reassuring gaze while bringing the back of her hand to his lips.

"Be good. I’ll have to take a call." He softly whispered. Xiu Mei nodded reluctantly letting go of their joined hands and watching him disappear from the hallway.

Of course, the conversation between the two men was just simply about Xiu Mei’s progress and her current state as of the moment. Lu Chen told Doctor Lee that at least, Xiu Mei can now normally communicate with him, and no, he didn’t elaborate on the circ.u.mstances on how she was suddenly able to speak with him.

"Did something change after she learned about Xiu Min’s situation?"

"She had been subconsciously being emotionally sensitive for the past weeks, but this time, she revealed more of her emotions and she looks quite shaken up when I answered her questions this morning."

"Based on her actions before and after she knew about it, was there anything that became unstable or something?"

Lu Chen fell silent for a moment to ponder for a moment.

"Nothing to be of too much concerned about."

Aside from being seemingly clingy to him since yesterday night, he didn’t notice any particular changes to be worried about at all.

He’d been closely observing her just in case she goes into another episode of her PTSD symptoms and fortunately, she seems to be taking everything fine for now.

Doctor Lee just hmm-ed as he reminded, "Even though I said to treat her just as usual before she had her psychological trauma, you still have to be careful not to let her be too excited. She never got over her PTSD for years so we’re still unsure how she would react to circ.u.mstances similar to this."

"I’ll keep that in mind." Lu Chen concurred. He was cautious of that, that’s why he didn’t tell her everything because he didn’t want her to worry too much. He hadn’t even told her the other issues he noticed at work since surely, she wouldn’t be able to stop herself from working once she knows about it.

During the weekend, Xiu Mei brought Lu Qiang due to his insistence to visit his uncle. She didn’t hear anything from her mother since she returned to the army, and her father and second brother still tells her something, but she knew they’re still keeping some things from her.

She appreciates the thought that they want to protect her, but she felt more useless the more they try to keep secrets from her. She didn’t tell them that though.

On the other hand, her husband became busier than ever juggling between the company and his other job. She would sometimes sit with him in the study while he was working, and unlike before, he barely even had the time to chat with her. f(r)eewebn(o)vel.com

Feeling guilty, she had her assistant email her to forward some of Lu Chen’s share that could be worked on by her instead. It was the least she could do since she couldn’t help him with his other business.

She spent most of her time in the hospital and her son who was steadily changing from being unsociable into someone hanging out with his friends every after school. She felt proud of the change and knew that they both did the right thing to send him to school.

Two weeks passed just like that.

Until Xiu Mei finally noticed one of the problems that Lu Chen hid from her weeks ago.

She was having her snack break in the garden with their two pets, scrolling through the news and stocks after not checking it for quite some time. Her finger hovering over the screen paused, as she noticed the weird movement of the global stock market.

No simple person would have noticed these subtle changes, but people like Xiu Mei, are quite sensitive to any fluctuations in the market.

That’s weird.

Quite a number of major companies are having weird fluctuations in stocks. It’s very subtle, but they’re all slowly falling after having a peak for a few hours.

She immediately backtracked the news for any issues related, but it seems that there wasn’t anything related to those companies. She continued studying the news and market for almost an hour, before finally realizing the truth behind the weird fluctuations.

Perhaps someone... is trying to control the movements in the market, at the same time, he intends to lower the stocks in a roundabout way to gain control over the major companies.
