Chapter 81: Don’t Come Home Tomorrow (2)

“Well, it’s time to open it because I can’t keep it unopened forever. And before I try to enhance the +1 Ice Emperor’s guardian sword, I have to enhance whatever accessory comes out first.”

Enhancing the Ice Emperor’s guardian sword to Enhancement 1 previously generated a 14-day cooldown. Obviously, it will generate a longer cooldown this time.

So, I thought I had better open the box now so I could enhance whatever accessory came out if I wanted to. Thanks to my victory in today’s fight, I was confident that I would not care whatever item came out because although I felt it rather embarrassing to say so myself, I myself was already a myth grade or even more than that.

Anyway, I immediately took out the random box from the inventory and opened it.

Then, a message appeared with a yellow flash.

[You have acquired the Warrior’s Bracelet (Legendary).]

“…”

Since I decided that I would not care about whatever item came out of it, I opened it with confidence.

But deep down I wished that I would get a Legendary item and a wizard-type one at that.

If I could not get it, I hoped that the item would at least increase my Intellect.

Hopefully, it would be a legendary grade item.

However, I felt that this item would not increase my Intellect, let alone be a wizard-type item, given its name.

“Check the Warrior’s bracelet.”

So, I started checking the item first, wistfully thinking it was not the one I wanted.

[Intrepid Warrior’s Bracelet (Legendary)

-This bracelet contains the spirit of a warrior charged forward bravely in all battles without retreating.

: Increases Strength by150.

: Increases Agility by 150.

: Boosts Combat Power by 10% in the arena.

-Physical defense: increases by 150, magic defense: increases by 50.

-Durability: 655000/655000]

The item’s characteristics were no surprise, even though I hoped for it to be different..

But it was still worth it because my Strength and Agility increased by 150, while the 10% Combat Power increase in the Arena seemed quite high.

Of course, it is difficult to say that an increase of 10% is high.

For someone with Combat Power totaling 10, they would only receive an increase of 1. But for people with enormous combat power totaling 100, 1000, 10000 or more, the increase would be far more significant. That was exactly the case with me.

“By the way, the arena? Of course, I’m going to fight there, but is this encouraging me to fight harder?”

Of course, there was no evidence supporting this, but I felt that way for some reason.

Anyway, I hunted down the long-rooted saplings until 1am, then fell asleep right away so I could go home early the next day.

The next morning I left the studio with only the 3rd generation high-end VR device in my bag. I arrived at my house in Cheongdam-dong at around 10 by riding a bus and a taxi. The area around my house was always quiet and empty. This was because all the houses in and around the Cheongdam-dong area were famous for being the residences of wealthy high-profile people in South Korea. In the past, security guards would stop people at the entrance to check their identities before allowing them to go in. But such practices were gone when many complained that maintaining such tight restrictions was the unwarranted prerogatives of the rich.

Anyway when I visited my house, a group of people and a line of seven luxury cars stood in front of the usually quiet and empty alley leading to my house.

When I approached, I heard some whispers relating to me.

“Who is he? Is he a newspaper delivery man?”

“Don’t you know him? He’s the youngest son of this family.”

“Oh, that son who was admitted to Seoul National University as a top student? But haven’t you heard the rumors that he went crazy after his period in the army? There were even rumors that he was locked up in a mental hospital.”

“Really? I never heard that. As far as I know, he went into hiding after he was caught pretending to be a genius.”

“That’s nonsense. He went through lots of tests. Isn’t it true that he’s really smart? He was on TV for some time because he was so smart in many domains.”

“Hey. Do you believe it? It’s all simple tricks. Tricks! Anyway, as far as I know, even his family gave him up. That’s why he is walking around in shabby clothes like that. Leave him alone. We don’t have to care about him anyway.”

“Sure. Maybe our captain might be his brother-in-law.”

“Lol. That would be good for that guy. Where can he find a better brother-in-law than our captain?”

My hearing was not particularly good, but I could hear their conversation because they didn’t have any intention of hiding what they were talking about.

Of course, I didn’t like them from the start because the way they blocked the entrance to my house reminded me of the typical hooligans that I sometimes saw on TV.

I also didn’t like my house security who didn’t take any action to stop them.

Tramp, tramp.

They didn’t stop me because they already knew who I was.

I ignored them completely, then passed by them and pushed open the gate.

When I went in, an old butler who has been taking care of my house affairs for a long time was standing in the garden nervously.

As soon as he found me, he opened his mouth, startled.

“Oh, young master!”

“It’s so noisy here. What’s going on?” I asked him calmly because there was no need to make a fuss here in the presence of these men who were stupid enough to call their leader my future brother-in-law.

“Well….” The butler didn’t answer me quickly.

So, I did not question him further or try to persuade him to tell me in detail because I could find out myself. I passed by him and entered the living room.

I was not briefed about it in advance, so I was in the dark about what was going on now.

But I could find out immediately that two groups were waging a fierce war at the moment.

At last, my father, who was sitting at the head of the table with the stiffest expression on his face that I had ever seen, said to the middle-aged man across the table, “I have been considerate of your position until now. But don’t you realize that you are now crossing the line?”

This was the first time I’ve ever heard my father talking to somebody in an angry voice.

But it seemed that his angry words did not pressure the middle-aged man on the opposite sofa at all. He responded with a smile, comfortably laid back on the sofa.

“Hahaha. How can I not know the warm considerations of my chairman who discovered and raised me like this? Isn’t this a great opportunity for you to accept me as a member of your family? I’m not sure if you know this, but I’m on a roll these days. Many companies are asking me to join them. Myongjin Group is nothing compared to them.”

The middle-aged man didn’t hesitate to disparage Myongjin Group even in front of my father.

He clearly said my father had discovered and made him what he was today.

In other words, he was a man belonging to the Myongjin Group.

Of course, I did know much about what relationship he was with my father, or what kind of title he had within the Myongjin Group. I even thought that my father or Managing Director Insu Sok might have suppressed him to the extent that he felt very frustrated and resentful.

But I was convinced that my father or Managing Director Sok would not have done so without any reason because I clearly noticed the greed and wild ambition in the eyes of this middle-aged man that he could not hide.

My brother-in-law that the guys outside my house mentioned and the ‘family member’ that this middle-aged man mentioned. Based on this information, I could infer what kind of situation my father was in, and naturally, I felt very displeased.
