Chapter 101 - Blind Pride
While still on the knees, Wu Ying felt a wave of unbridling anger roiling up in her chest. While she was begging to Li Zhiqiang fro forgiveness and kneeling in front of him, she didn't kneel in front of that hick. When she had first arrived in Hong Kong, the woman had no sense how to even properly dress herself up, neither she had some appropriate skills in communication.
Ever since the first meeting, Wu Ying had thought she was just some country bumpkin. Wu Ying been disgusted with her and refused to let her stay in their family manor. Back then her sister Wu Xiuqin sed to do a lot of charitable works like her and frequently brought people home.
Who knew that her stupid sister would have made that bumpkin stay at Li Zhiqiang place. If Wu Ying had known that her sister would do that, she would have rather endured Jing Lihua's presence at their manor to keep her away from Li Zhiqiang.
And what disgusted Wu Ying the most was that the bumpkin seduced President Li. Talk about getting greedy. She was already getting more than what she deserved by having being taken care of by her sister. She even thought of marrying Li Zhiqiang? A peasant dares to marry the prince? Wu Ying couldn't be angrier.
The only reason she couldn't hope of getting such a fine man while having the opportunity was because of the age difference. So she had sent her sister after him. Someone like her sister who was beautiful, elegant and sophisticated deserved him.
Wu Ying could bend her knee to President Li but in front of that country bumpkin, she would never bend her knee. She had her pride too!
"I'm talking to President Li!" She snarled angrily and openly glared at Jing Lihua.
Jing Lihua was amazed at how could Wu Ying still have enough anger towards Jing Lihua that she forgot her fear. Her hatred for Jing Lihua must be quite deep.
Li Zhiqiang moved forward and hugged Jing Lihua from behind. As he planned before, he wouldn't spare to take advantage of the opportunity. "Let's move to the couches and order for some drinks. You must have been tired standing all the while" It was as if he didn't care much about the Wu sisters. All the time his eyes had been glued to Jing Lihua like an obsession.
Wu Ying and Wu Xiuqin's presence were totally ignored. They both were too scared to make a move. Wu Ying kept kneeling. She felt a sense of helplessness and coldness over her body. Wu Xiuqin kept her head low. There had been strange emotions in her eyes.
'She must have thought by admitting to her sister's fault she could have saved her image in Li Zhiqiang eyes and saved future opportunities to carry on her relationship with him, be it just friendship. But too bad. Li Zhiqiang had just revealed what was their worth in his eyes compared to me. After realizing that she must have been heartbroken' Remembering the slap she had received that day and the way Wu Xiuqin had treated her, Jing Lihua didn't feel bad for her.
"President Li, I'm truly sorry for having offended you in my ignorance. I knew you fancied that woman but the extent of your affection was something I couldn't understand." Wu Ying said when her knees hurt for too long. The honorable and prideful her in the society, being kneeling like that, how humiliating it was? But she could only swallow down her spite. For now, of course. "If I knew that woman was so important to you, I wouldn't say anything."
"Jing Lihua, we both know you can not hold more than a glass. Do not think about taking another sip." Li Zhiqiang took away the wine glass totally ignoring Wu Ying like she was not even there. Wu Ying felt exceedingly cold. Today was the worst day of her life.
"It's my last day in Hong Kong. Let me have some." Jing Lihua fought for the glass but in vain.
"No, I'm not taking your drunk dead back to Beijing. Besides didn't your secretary say something bad happened in your company and you had to discuss it with her on your way back?"
"Now you mention it." Jing Lihua gave up the struggle. "Let's finish up the matter with them. We will have to leave soon."
"So do you admit you say all those things to Jing Lihua?" Li Zhiqiang questioned finally looking at Wu Ying. His expressions and the cold tune even froze the trembling of her body.
"I-I had no choice, President Li. SWhat she said was meant to hurt my little sister in her downtime. My affection for—"
"Did you or did you not?" Li Zhiqiang wasn't a man of patience.
"I did but..." Wu Ying didn't dare say any further.
"Now that we have a guilty person the punishment should be made accordingly. I believe in being fair and just. How about whatever you planned to do to Jing Lihua, I would have the clubs management done that to do for her 'entertainment'? What do you think Jing Lihua?"
Wu Ying was horrified. She quickly kowtowed. Tears already streaming out of her eyes. Even Wu Xiuqin looked up with horror in her eyes. "President Li, please have mercy! You are not the kind of man who would do such a thing to a woman!"
Being humiliated as such was no small thing. In the city, gossips traveled faster than the fire in a forest on a rainy day. What Wu family cared about the most was their reputation. If something like that happened, Wu Ying's reputation would be ruined forever. She would never be able to show her face to society ever again.
Li Zhiqiang shrugged. "But I'm also the kind of man who pays doubles for what one does. My already doing what you did is being generous. Besides, I'm not the one you should be begging for mercy. The final decision lies with Jing Lihua. You offended her and she should be the one you should be apologizing from."
