Chapter 2496 - Beast Massacre
The people watching in the distance were utterly stunned. The spherical ocean revolved like a gigantic ball of glass, within which countless evernight whales sang and swam, making for quite the dreamscape. The Black Panther Army completely ignored the Ninedragon Imperial Tomb and kept attacking the defensive formation, so others didn't really keep an eye on them any longer. Instead, their attention was drawn to the loud roars of warbeasts within the spherical ocean.
"Lin Feng is dead for sure!"
"Once the lords capture him, we'll be able to turn things around!"
"That brat’s the future hope of the Swordgod Lin Clan. Once we capture him, that traitorous Lin Xiaodao will have no choice but to submit!"
The ebons' hopes had been reignited, despite the dangerous state their defensive formation was in. They had no choice but to count on Tianming being taken hostage, but would things really go the way they wanted?
Within the firmament ocean wonder, Kunmo Cang and Kunmo Chao summoned more than a hundred warbeasts from their fauna worldstones. Each of them could control more than fifty warbeasts with their soul eyes. All of their beasts were above the mid-sanctuary class, with three even reaching the ether class, on par with cosmic cartographers. Two of them were Kunmo Cang's low-ether-class beasts, while the other, a mid-ether-class beast, belonged to Kunmo Chao. That one in particular was the strongest wildbeast in the Inkwell Sea and was nicknamed the Inkwell Sovereign. All wildbeasts within the vicinity of the sea submitted to it as their ruler. All of the warbeasts and Kunmo Chao focused on taking out Moran's divine wonders, while Kunmo Cang focused on infiltrating the ship to get to Tianming.
"How dare mere divine wonders face off against infinite beastmasters?!" Kunmo Chao roared. His hands glowed with purple light that enveloped his hundred-plus warbeasts in a grand display of power.
Deep within the firmament ocean wonder, Moran was surrounded entirely by nova source. However, she didn't make a single sound and just endured it with furrowed brows, unleashing as much power into her divine wonders as she could.
When Tianming had clashed with Shenxi Shang, the strongest warbeast he’d faced was mid-sanctuary-class. Yet all of the beasts within the firmament ocean wonder were stronger than that. However, Moran had the Ninedragon Imperial Tomb and Ji Ji at her back, allowing her to unleash close to ninety percent of Etherean Zhaohua's divine wonders' full powers. Even if that person wouldn't have been Lin Xiaodao's match, he was still an etherean in his own right!
The grand divine wonders exploded with power. The ocean raged while countless evernight whales swam toward the warbeasts, ganging up on them. The warbeasts had never encountered foes like that and used nothing but brute force to fight! But in a single exchange, it was clear which side would win. Most of the sanctuary-class warbeasts were immediately torn to shreds by the divine wonders before they could even cry out in agony; it didn't take long before they were all exterminated by the firmament ocean wonder. Despite the sheer mass of blood and blended flesh, the power of Etherean Zhaohua's divine wonders wasn’t dampened at all.
But those outside couldn't even see what was happening within. If the beasts had died in a normal body of water, it would quickly be dyed red with blood. However, the firmament ocean wonder wasn’t actually water, but a divine wonder facsimile of it. It easily gathered the meat scraps and blood and ejected it on the surface of the defensive formation while it remained completely clean and untouched.
"What just flew out of there?"
"Pieces of carcasses and blood! Is that what remains of their lifebound beasts?"
"How could Lin Feng have so many lifebound beasts? That’s the remains of warbeasts...."
When the ebons finally realized that fact, they were rather taken aback, even with how much they were still in denial.
"Lin Xiaodao can't be lying in ambush within, right?"
"Impossible! Many of our informants reported that only Lin Feng’s there! That traitor Lin Xiaodao is somewhere else."
"Lin Zhongtian and Lin Zhonghai aren't here either!"
"Who in the world is fighting our two lords?"
"Fear not. The fact that they chose to launch an attack means that they're confident it'll work. We have to endure!"
Though they said that, the Black Panther Army continued applying mounting pressure on their ranks. They could only wait for their lords' plan to succeed, but the good news never came. Their worries began building up.
"It's fine, we won't die! All we have to do is surrender! As long as we survive, they won't be able to do anything against us before the expeditionary army from Ebonia comes!"
"That's right!"
The thought of that made them feel slightly better about their inevitable loss, though it didn't help Kunmo Chao at all. Being endlessly pummeled by the divine wonders, he was fuming with rage. He turned back and saw that not only had the hundred-plus sanctuary-class beasts not pulled their weight, they’d even been slaughtered.
"How could this be so powerful?!" His eyes widened with disbelief. His entire army of sanctuary-class warbeasts had been defeated! The girl who was bathing in nova source before him truly looked like the goddess of this marine domain. "She clearly doesn't have any power of her own, but she's able to use the nova source from the divine astralship to power her divine wonders.... It's almost like she's a living formation! What in the world is she?!"
His mind was about to explode from the sheer incomprehensibility of the situation. While he didn't really understand divine wonders that much, his common sense told him that this way of fighting didn't exist. Normal divine wondermancers used their own cosmoforce to power their divine wonders. And although the current situation was shocking, he knew that complaining was a luxury he couldn't afford.
"Die!" Only two low-ether-class warbeasts remained by his side to fight, as well as Kunmo Cang's mid-ether-class warbeast. They had been able to endure the divine wonders' might by the sheer toughness of their flesh, a sign that reaching the ether class represented a huge explosion in power. Even so, they were still covered in bloody injuries; large beasts like them were even more vulnerable to formation-like divine wonder attacks.
Kunmo Chao took the initiative and charged. "Divine wonders are formations at the end of the day. Destroy the core and they'll collapse!"
He turned into a black storm and tore the ocean apart, shooting toward Moran. The two black beasts behind him had odd, misshapen cuttlefish forms that inspired much terror. Their heads looked like those of normal cuttlefish, but their tails had countless thick and powerful tentacles covered in sharp scale armor. At the end of those tentacles were snakeheads! They were the most important wildbeasts in the Inkwell Sea, known as cuttlefiend cobras.
