Chapter 687: Leaking Information

The kidnapper’s words had struck a nerve, hitting George right where it hurt the most.

Struggling to find the right words, George was at a loss about how to react at the moment.

Meanwhile, Charlie was also caught in a dilemma. He was uncertain whether Luo Feng could promptly locate and rescue Alice and the others.

If Luo Feng failed in his mission, trading an insignificant life for his daughter’s safety seemed like a reasonable deal.

Just then, Charlie’s phone rang.

It was a call from Luo Feng, informing him that Alice had been found and successfully rescued.

With this weight off his shoulders, Charlie felt invincible.

After ending the call with Luo Feng, Charlie looked at the two men before him, a slight movement at the corner of his mouth betraying his emotions.

“George, I assume you have a fallback plan?” Charlie’s eyes bore into George, filled with a murderous intent.

“What are you talking about, Chairman? I don’t understand. Clearly, this man is framing me. You shouldn’t believe him so easily,” George retorted.

“Do you think playing dumb will work now? Or do you believe I’ve grown senile? At this stage, do you really expect me to buy your lies?”

Realizing that his scheme had been thoroughly exposed, George could only abandon all pretense.

But he did have a contingency plan.

For a matter of this magnitude, he couldn’t guarantee that nothing would go awry. The worst-case scenario had already played out, something he had anticipated.

Though he had hoped this situation wouldn’t occur, if there was even a possibility, he had to be prepared.

“Mr. Charlie, can’t we turn the page on this matter? Pretend it never happened?” George proposed.

At this, Charlie burst out laughing. “Why should I? Give me one reason to spare you.”

“The reason is simple: if you let me go, I’ll do the same for you,” George stated confidently, causing Charlie to furrow his brows.

“What makes you think you’re in a position to spare me? What leverage do you think you have over me?”

After some thought, Charlie could only conclude that it had to do with the truckload of cash. “You’re not suggesting that this truck of money could disrupt the cash flow of our Cosmic Tower, and you’ve colluded with others to take advantage of that, are you?”

George remained silent.

“In that case, let me be frank. I never intended to bring one billion in funds here. The board meeting decision was merely a pretext to remove rivals,” Charlie revealed. “You think this truck is filled with cash? It’s all blank paper, intended to fool you!”

George simply shook his head disdainfully. “You misunderstand. From the start, I suspected this operation might fail, so I arranged for backup. We are already surrounded. On my command, they’ll storm in. Do you think you could escape?”

Though Charlie had brought bodyguards, their numbers were insufficient. If George’s claims were true, Charlie was indeed in danger.

“Are you threatening me?”

Charlie couldn’t tolerate threats, whether involving Alice’s life or his own.

“Chairman, at this point, must we still play games with words? I simply want to trade your life for mine.”

“As long as you’re willing to let me go, we can negotiate. Otherwise, I’ll have no choice but to drag you down with me.”

George wasted no more time. He honked the horn, and dozens of thugs approached, surrounding the vehicle. Charlie’s bodyguards were easily subdued.

“Chairman, I could kill you right now if I wanted to, but I don’t intend to do so.”

“I just want to survive. I assume you don’t want to die either?”

Cornered by George’s threats, Charlie conceded. “Fine. I need to make a call. I’ve sent people after your parents and your wife and children. I need to call them off.”

“Go ahead, but use the speakerphone. Otherwise, I can’t trust you.”

Charlie took the phone, quickly typing in a sequence of numbers. As he hesitated whether to make the call, George snatched the phone back and hit the dial button..
