Chapter 128 Liam's Quest

[: Daniel POV :]

"We have arrived at the guest room, and the Head will be joining us shortly"

"Meanwhile, a maid will serve some drinks and sweets for your enjoyment,"

The captain informed us before taking his leave, leaving Bella and me waiting for the arrival of the Head.

After a seemingly endless minute of anticipation, the Head of the Wilbert Family finally entered the room.

"I apologize for keeping you waiting, Princess,"

He said apologetically as he took his seat.

However, as I observed the man closely, I couldn't help but notice the fatigue etched on his face.

It resembled someone who hadn't slept in days and had been overburdened with work.

I couldn't help but notice the telltale signs on Liam's face - the dark eye bags, the pale complexion, and his visibly thin body.

Bella, too, took notice of his state, her curiosity piqued as to what could have caused such a change.

Deep down, I knew the reason behind his exhaustion.

"How have you been, Liam? You seem to be holding up well,"

Bella asked, attempting to lighten the mood with a playful jest.

"Holding up well? Don't joke with me, Princess. Look at me. I'm practically a walking corpse,"

Liam shot back, his response laced with a touch of self-deprecating humour.

But he pressed on, asking the question that had brought her here.

"Still, what brings you the pleasure of this visit, my dear majesty?"

He inquired, her tone lighthearted yet seeking answers.

Before Bella could utter a word, however, Liam interrupted her, an all-knowing expression overtaking his features.

"Ah, I think I know why you're here"

"You seek my support for your succession"

"Your fame has spread throughout the continent, and you can't hide the truth of your actions,"

He uttered, aware of the news surrounding Bella's accomplishments.

"Which is why I'll get straight to the point,"

He said, his gaze became firm.

"I won't ask for the impossible, but if you can assist me in this matter, you'll gain my eternal loyalty"

"What is it?" Bella curiously asked.

"All I ask is that you save my wife and child,"

Liam pleaded, desperation flickering in his eyes.

[: 3rd POV :]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

In a room that was filled with an air of despair, a child was lying motionless on the bed.

Tubes and wires snaked their way into her fragile body, connecting her to life-sustaining machines.

Her once vibrant spirit, now diminished, was reflected in her skinny frame.

A cruel illness had robbed her of her youth, leaving only a pale, frail figure in its wake.

"Father, will I...will I make it?"

These were the trembling words that escaped the child's lips.

Her weak voice is barely audible amidst the beeping of machines and the sombre atmosphere in the hospital room.

Beside her, the mother lay in a perpetual slumber, locked in a separate battle against the same merciless disease.

She had been like this for years, lost in an unending sleep that offered no respite.

Liam Wilbert, the father, watched helplessly as his beloved daughter teetered on the edge of life and death.

Gently, he grasped her tiny, fragile hand, a lifeline of hope amidst the uncertainty.

"You're going to be alright, my dear,"

Liam whispered, his voice choked with emotion.

Every fibre of his being longed for his words to be true, for his daughter to emerge victorious against the relentless grasp of illness.

But deep down, he knew that the future was uncertain, that his promise held a fragility that mirrored the delicate state of his daughter's existence.

"Really, father?"

The child's voice was filled with hope and trust, as she held onto her father's words without a shred of doubt.

"Yes, I promise,"

Liam replied, his voice trembling.

It felt as if he was trying to convince himself just as much as he was trying to reassure his daughter.

He had exhausted every possible method, sought out numerous experts, and even utilized his precious resources, but nothing seemed to work.

Despite his best efforts, the illness continued to ravage his wife and daughter's bodies.

The more he fought, the more despair settled in.

Time was slipping away, with less than a year remaining for both his wife and daughter to live.

"Once I recover, I want us to go on a picnic together with Mom. I want to visit amusement parks and experience all sorts of thrilling activities,"

The child eagerly listed her desires, her voice filled with innocence and longing.

Liam could only listen, a mix of emotions swirling within him – hope, sadness, and the heavy weight of the limited time they had left together.

His daughter had been plagued by this cruel illness since the day she was born.

She never had the chance to experience the joys of a carefree life.

The weight of this reality bore down on Liam's heart, filling him with a deep sadness.

As he shared the requirements for Elsa and Daniel to fulfil, memories flooded his mind.

He saw flashes of moments spent with his wife, the happiness he used to have, and he wanted to share it with his daughter.

It was through these recollections that his desperation for a cure grew even stronger.

If, by some miracle, Elsa and Daniel could find a way to heal his wife and daughter.

To get rid of them of the shackles of this relentless disease, Liam knew that he would pledge his loyalty to the Princess without a hint of hesitation.

The prospect of granting his family a chance at a future, of freeing them from their suffering, outweighed any doubts or reservations he might have had.

[: You have received an Ex Rank Quest: A Noble Plead. Reward: 1 Unique Selection class Ticket. Time Limit: 1 Year :]

[: A Noble Plead :]

- Cure the diseases that Liam's daughter and wife are facing :]

"If you could cure the diseases that my daughter and wife are suffering from, I would pledge my unwavering loyalty to the Princess,"

Liam's plea echoed in my ears, stirring a deep sympathy within me.

As I read the quest details that had appeared before labelled as "A Noble Plead," a surge of anticipation swept through me.

The reward listed was all too familiar - another one of those invaluable Unique Selection Coupon Tickets.

It was hard to believe that such a rare item was once again within my grasp.

Another Class Selection Coupon?

I would gladly accept it!

The excitement within me was bubbling, making it a challenge to contain.

The fact that I had been bestowed with another one of these scarce rewards left me in disbelief.

Thoughts raced through my mind, drawing my attention away from the present moment.

This couldn't be a mere coincidence.

If two factions had offered similar rewards, what could be in store for the remaining faction and the perpetual rulers?

If even the slightest chance of yet another class coupon appearing existed, I knew I had to seize it.

The reason behind my fervent pursuit was the significance of the ticket itself.

It was a selection ticket!

The implications were enormous - the ability to choose any class that was Unique or lower from the annals of history.

This privilege was not something easily attainable.

There were classes that remained unobtainable, no matter the effort or knowledge one possessed.

These classes, defined as Legendaries, lay recorded within the lore of history.

Hence, to possess two of these selection class tickets was almost impossible.

My heart raced with a mixture of excitement and nervousness, fully aware of the immense potential and possibilities that unfolded before me.

"Then please lead the way,"

I immediately requested.

Liam nodded in response, standing up to guide us towards the bedroom where his wife and daughter lay.

As I entered the room, a surge of sympathy washed over me.

The sight of numerous tubes and machines connected to the child and Liam's wife was overwhelming.

I couldn't comprehend the immense pain and fear Liam must have felt as a father, helplessly watching his loved ones teeter on the edge between life and death.

Looking at his daughter, my mind couldn't help but draw parallels to someone I cared about deeply.

I couldn't help but wonder if she was safe and well.

"How long have they been in this condition?"

I inquired, my voice filled with genuine concern.

Gathering precise information was essential before I could effectively utilize my abilities.

"For my child, it has been since the day she was born,"

Liam replied, his words laden with the weight of his pain, the heaviness of his experiences almost palpable.

"As for my wife, we only discovered this devastating disease after she gave birth, slowly consuming her life,"

Liam continued, his voice tinged with sorrow and regret.

The intensity of Liam's suffering resonated deeply within me.

I could vividly imagine the heart-wrenching anguish he felt when his wife failed to wake up.

Their dreams of a blissful and fulfilling life shattered by the cruel reality of illness.

The memory of his daughter's tears, shed countless times in the face of her own illness, haunted Liam relentlessly.

My heart ached as I absorbed the profound impact of their struggles.

The knowledge that these were not just characters in a game, but real human beings facing such dire circumstances, intensified my desire to help.

In this moment, I was contradicting myself, but heck that!

I'll do anything I want with my powers!
