Chapter 787: Keep an eye out

Xu Cheng didn’t know that Mu Wan was put on hiatus, but even if he knew, he wouldn’t care too much, because she put herself into this situation. Everything happens for a reason after all.

It was not like life couldn’t go on if she wasn’t in the entertainment industry. If Xu Cheng was to get involved personally, then the person who offended him would already be dead.

Since so many things happened, he had less compassion for this society and only a sense of self-defence. For things that weren’t his business, he would not intervene, but if someone offended him, then he wasn’t going to be merciful like Lei Feng or Buddha.

After leaving Yanjing, he went back to Shangcheng.

Two weeks had passed since the last time he saw Lin Chuxue.

During this time, Lin Chuxue stayed in Shen Yao’s apartment every day.

However, she was getting bored so she took out her cell phone and called Lin Dong, “Little Dong, when will the bodyguard you arranged for me arrive? I’m bored to death. Have him come over quickly because I need to go out to donate some supplies to orphanages across the country for charity.”

“Madam, he’ll be there in the afternoon, and he will protect you 24 hours a day from now on. I hope you can cooperate with him, because those people are still trying to find you and your appearance out there will attract the public and media attention. By then, it will be too easy for those people to find you. Please cooperate with the bodyguard so there’s less for us to worry about.”

“Okay, I know kid. When did you get the nerve to lecture me?” Lin Chuxue said.

Lin Dong let out a bitter laugh. “He will meet you in the afternoon, I’ll be going now. If you have any requests in the future, just call me directly.”

After Lin Chuxue hung up, she sat on the sofa and looked at the time; it was already the afternoon.

After Ran Jing walked into the apartment from work, she laid down on the sofa in exhaustion. “Finally, the case is over.”

Shen Yao came out from the bathroom after changing clothes. She wiped her hair as she said, “Oh, that big case you mentioned before?”

“Yes, finally the key figures of the East Gate, North Gate, and South Gate have been captured. The East Gate port will face restructuring so that half of the assets will be government property and half would be private. The entire South Gate food city will be temporarily closed and rectified, while the North Gate gangsters will all be imprisoned for at least 5 years.”

“Nice, you solved this kind of big case. That means a promotion, right?”

“You think I’m going to be promoted just like that?” Ran Jing rolled her eyes. “The biggest piece of credit for this case belongs to Mr. Fang who transferred from Yanjing. Then the second biggest piece of credit belongs to one of my deputy team leaders. Of course, I’m also mentioned because he’s my subordinate, who was under my wise leadership when solving the case. Let’s go celebrate, it’s my treat today and you guys can pick anything!”

Ran Jing waved her hand.

Shen Yao smiled and then looked at Lin Chuxue. “It’s not convenient for Little Xue, right?”

Knowing Lin Chuxue’s situation, Ran Jing patted her police uniform and said, “I am a police officer, come on. What kind of killer dares to be so blatant?”

Lin Chuxue didn’t want to spoil the fun either. “Then what are we waiting for, let’s go.”

The three of them just opened the door when they saw Xu Cheng walking out of the elevator and stopping in front of their door.

“Mr. Fang?”

Ran Jing was surprised that he had come.

“Haven’t you already gone back to Yanjing?”

Xu Cheng was still wearing the mask hiding his identity.

“Yes, I went back, but I received another assignment to protect someone.” He looked at Lin Chuxue and said, “Miss Lin, right? I am the bodyguard responsible for your safety in the future, I have the obligation to protect you around the clock. My name is Fang Yucheng, nice to meet you.”

Lin Chuxue didn’t expect that it would be him who would be her bodyguard.

“You’re the one Little Dong arranged for me?” Lin Chuxue asked.

Xu Cheng pretended that he didn’t know Lin Dong, because he was afraid that Lin Chuxue would sense something between them.

“Who is Little Dong? I came here because I received an assignment from my superiors, is there any problem?”

“No.” Lin Chuxue shook her head, then shook his hand. “Nice to meet you. I’ll have to depend on Mr. Fang from now on. Protecting me might be tricky, so thank you for your hard work in advance.”

“I’ve caught up on all the basic information and I know the importance of the mission,” Xu Cheng said.

“Wait.” Ran Jing couldn’t help but interrupt their conversation. “Your title doesn’t seem to be right. Aren’t you involved in criminal investigation? Why are you a bodyguard now? You should be promoted to another rank after this big case, but now it seems like you’ve been demoted. I can’t think this through.”

“That’s not true.” Xu Cheng smiled and said, “You should ask Miss Lin, she should know why.”

Lin Chuxue said, “It’s okay, Little Jing. As long as he’s sent from Yanjing then it makes sense. Xu Cheng’s elders all know my situation, so it’s reasonable for them to have someone from Yanjing to come protect me.”

Ran Jing: “Then you know martial arts? You were working in criminal investigation, but bodyguards rely on strength as well as brains.”

Xu Cheng suddenly waved his hand in front of Ran Jing, and a second later, he held Ran Jing’s police ID in his hand and said, “Is this okay?”

Ran Jing eyelids twitched a little and she snatched the ID from his hand as she looked deeply at Xu Cheng.

“That doesn’t count. A thief could do the same. Although we know each other, you still need to show me your real abilities for me to believe that you can protect Little Xue and be her bodyguard.”

Xu Cheng frowned. “Then how do I prove it?”

Ran Jing went to grab a solid wooden chair over and said, “I heard that experts can leave handprints on this, do you want to try?”

Xu Cheng walked over and gently slapped his hand on the chair, leaving a dented handprint.

“Is it okay now?” Xu Cheng asked.

“Alright.” Ran Jing moved the chair back inside and went over to find the previous table she kept. It was the table that Xu Cheng unintentionally left a handprint on, and a suspicion raised in her head when she compared the two objects.

When Ran Jing came out again, she pretended to be answering the phone.

Then she said to the others, “I have to go to the police station immediately, Yao Yao you take Little Xue first to the Western restaurant that the two of us usually like to go to. I will come soon, we’ll definitely celebrate tonight.”

Shen Yao nodded. “I’ll kick you out of here if you ditch us!”

Ran Jing laughed. “Okay, I dare to ditch everyone else but you. You’re my landlord.”

Shen Yao: “It’s good that you know. I’m going to order some good food, and if you don’t come by then and make me pay the bill, then you’re dead! Let’s go.”

Shen Yao turned around and left with Lin Chuxue.

Xu Cheng then followed behind Lin Chuxue.
