96 Monster

“Master, how was the victim’s identity confirmed?” Yin Tao gently turned the female corpse’s head and found that there were no obvious fatal wounds on her body, but there were many small needle holes.

“Captain Chen asked the person who reported it. The complainant said that the victim’s clothes were exactly the same as his wife’s when she disappeared.” Su Ning also discovered these small needle holes and recorded them with his camera.

“The identity of the deceased couldn’t have been identified just by the clothes, right?” Yin Tao looked at the slightly swollen face of the deceased and felt that her facial features were not only ugly, but also a little unnatural.

“It’s not just the clothes. The informant also said that the deceased was not his wife, but I found this birthmark on the deceased.” Su Ning pointed at a dark birthmark on the female corpse’s left arm.

“Have you confirmed it with the complainant?” Yin Tao still felt that it was impossible for their facial features to be so different.

“Yes, it’s exactly the same as the birthmark on his wife.” Su Ning pointed at the female corpse’s face and asked Yin Tao, “Do you see anything wrong?”

Although Yin Tao wasn’t quite convinced by her own conclusion, she still told Su Ning her true thoughts. “The deceased might have undergone plastic surgery before she died.”

Su Ning heard the expected answer and nodded. “And it’s an extremely complicated plastic surgery.”

Yin Tao still didn’t believe that anyone would be willing to undergo plastic surgery to make themselves ugly.

“The cause of death has to be confirmed through an autopsy.” Su Ning got the police officer to put the corpse into a black body bag. He took off her gloves and said to Yin Tao, “Go and find out more about the situation with the complainant. See if you find any clues for the autopsy. I’ll go back to the autopsy lab to do a DNA identification first. We’ll meet up in the autopsy lab later.”

Watching Su Ning get on the hearse, Yin Tao turned around and walked towards Feng Jing and Captain Chen.

Feng Jing and Captain Chen were standing round the complainant. He was still squatting on the ground, but he was obviously less emotional now.

“Officer, that person can’t be my wife. She’s just missing. Impossible, definitely impossible…” The man’s voice was still trembling. Although it was obvious that he was trying his best to control his emotions, the perspiration on his forehead kept dripping.

“Now that the body has been taken away by the police, how are you feeling? Do you want to go to the hospital for a checkup, or do you want to go to the police station to wait for updates?” Captain Chen looked at the man’s dejected expression and his tone was much gentler than usual.

“I don’t need to go to the hospital. I’m fine. That person can’t be my wife!” The man took out his phone from his pocket and took out a photo. He handed it to Captain Chen and Feng Jing. “Look, this is my wife. How could the monster just now be her?”

Yin Tao looked at the man’s blood shot eyes and took out a packet of tissue from her pocket.

“Thank you.” The man took Yin Tao’s tissue and thanked her politely. Although he looked disheveled, his every move was gentlemanly.

Under the light, Yin Tao could see the man’s face clearly. Although his hair was completely disheveled, his facial features were still very handsome. He was in his thirties and seemed the cultured kind.

Yin Tao glanced at the photo that the man was showing Feng Jing and Captain Chen. It was a selfie of him and Song Yi.

The two people in the photo looked very intimate, and their faces were filled with blissful smiles. Both of them are good looking, and anyone who saw them would think that they were an exceptionally compatible couple.

The Song Yi in the photo was much prettier than the ID photo. It was hard to associate her with the ugly corpse just now.

“Let’s go back to the police station first. When the autopsy report comes out, everything will be clear.” Feng Jing helped the man on the ground up and patted his shoulder gently. He comforted him. “Don’t worry. We will get to the bottom of this, and the murderer will definitely be punished.”

As Feng Jing spoke, he had been silently observing the man’s micro-expression. However, the man did not seem to have regained his senses and he couldn’t discern any obvious emotions.

The police officer at the side helped the man into the police car. Captain Chen looked at Feng Jing and Yin Tao and said, “Judging from the state of the complainant, we won’t be able to get anything out of him tonight. Let’s wait for the autopsy report.”

Feng Jing nodded and looked at Yin Tao. “Captain Chen, I’ll send Dr. Yin to the autopsy lab first. When the autopsy results are out, I’ll bring the report back to the station.”

After the police car left, Feng Jing and Yin Tao got into the car.

“Brother Feng, do you think the complainant is suspicious?” As soon as Yin Tao got into the car, she couldn’t help but ask for Feng Jing’s opinion.
