Chapter 227: The Past

Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios

Yin Tao thanked Cheng Fei once again for his invitation. After the two of them parted ways, Yin Tao walked towards the meeting point that she had arranged over the phone with Feng Jing.

Feng Jing’s car was already by the roadside. Yin Tao jogged over and got into the car.

“Brother Feng, what’s wrong? Are you tired?” Yin Tao noticed that Feng Jing didn’t look good and was a little worried about his health.

“It’s fine. Did everything go well on your end? Did you see Liang Yi?’ Feng Jing watched Yin Tao get into the car and quickly adjusted his mood. His heart had been very heavy since he left his master’s house.

“No, but Liang Yi seems to be getting along well with Cheng Fei.” Yin Tao was still a little worried about Feng Jing. After all, this was a side of him that he rarely showed. He seemed very helpless.

“Brother Feng, is your master doing well too?” Yin Tao probed.

Feng Jing sighed softly. “Master is still the same. He is still as stubborn as before.”

Looking at Feng Jing’s reaction, Yin Tao felt that her guess was correct. It seemed like something had happened when he was at his master’s house. “Brother Feng, I’ve heard a little about your master. Is he alright now?’

Yin Tao didn’t intend to play dumb. After all, there were many things about Feng Jing that weren’t secrets. A person like him would fodder for conversation no matter where he went.

“Master has always been stubborn and he has always lived alone. But he is becoming more and more obstinate now.” Feng Jing had thought of many ways to help his master, but all of them were rejected. His good intentions were worthless in his master’s eyes. Although Feng Jing didn’t say it, he felt disappointed.

“Has there been any misunderstanding between the two of you?’ Yin Tao probed. Sometimes, if many things were communicated slightly differently, the outcome would be different.

“Maybe, but he won’t say. There’s nothing anyone can do.”

Feng Jing recalled what happened back then. His master was a genius detective who had solved countless cases in the police station. However, in order to protect a criminal, he deliberately dragged his feet on a case. Fortunately, the impact was not very serious, but he was still dismissed in the end.

Because Feng Jing trusted his master too much, he had also failed in his duty and was penalized. As a result, he felt downcast for some time. He didn’t feel down because he was demoted, but because he was deceived by the person he trusted the most.

“There are many things that can’t be explained. Brother Feng, it’s been so long. Your master must be feeling terrible.”

Yin Tao didn’t know how to comfort Feng Jing. After all, she had never experienced these things, so she couldn’t trivialize it.

“I used to think that I knew him very well, but I still don’t understand why he did what he did back then.” Feng Jing’s eyes were filled with sadness and regret when he mentioned his master.

This was the first time Yin Tao felt that Feng Jing also had a vulnerable side. Feng Jing had always given people the impression that he was strong and perfect.

However, as she got to understand him better, Yin Tao realized that Feng Jing was not as strong as he seemed. Just like her, he could be sad, anxious or uneasy.

However, Yin Tao felt that Feng Jing was more human this way. Without the halo of a powerful persona, Feng Jing was more like a person with flesh and blood.

“Perhaps he also has someone he wants to protect.” Although Yin Tao had never met Feng Jing’s master, she could roughly guess his personality and characteristics from Feng Jing’s description.

Although Feng Jing was implicated because of his master, he didn’t blame him but instead he was upset about not having truly understood him. He was not concerned about being affected, but he just couldn’t figure out why his master would hide the evidence.

He had always seen his master as an upright and courageous man. He did not understand why such a person would make such a fundamental mistake.

After Feng Jing had composed himself, he brought Yin Tao to a mall to shop for office wear for her internship that would start the following Monday. Yin Tao brought the black card her father gave her.

“Brother Feng, what kind of look do you think I should have for working at the Wan Corporation?” Yin Tao wanted to have a totally different look, so she needed to put some effort on her wardrobe.

“I told Liu Li of the Wan Corporation that you only wanted to work in the company out of curiosity.”

Feng Jing thought of his conversation with Liu Li and felt that Yin Tao could disguise herself as an innocent young lady. That way, not only would she not arouse anyone’s suspicion, it would also be very different from her usual
