144 Nightmare

“Alright, I understand.” Feng Jing looked at Yin Tao and said, “You have to be careful too. Don’t meet Liang Yi alone.”

Yin Tao nodded. “But I still want to find time to meet Cheng Fei. I have a feeling that he knows something.”

Feng Jing didn’t disagree with Yin Tao’s guess, but he also didn’t want her to be in danger. “If you really want to go, you must inform me in advance.”

“Don’t worry, Captain Feng. I will follow your orders.”

Yin Tao smiled and saluted Feng Jing. She thought of what Yin Hao said about Feng Jing being injured, and probed, “Brother Feng, have you met many different criminals in the past?”

“Why are you suddenly asking this? Isn’t it normal for the police to meet criminals?” Feng Jing looked at the time and rearranged the reports on the table.

“That means… Will it be very dangerous?” Yin Tao didn’t know how to ask Feng Jing, but when she thought about how he had really experienced those life-threatening events, she couldn’t help but feel her heart ache for him.

“It’s not dangerous.” Feng Jing suddenly thought of something and raised his head to look at Yin Tao. “You haven’t been practicing your self-defense skills for a few days?”

“It hasn’t been that long. Brother Feng, I’ll leave you to do your work. I’m going back to the dormitory.” Yin Tao ran out of the conference room as if she was escaping.

“This girl…” Feng Jing couldn’t help but laugh.

Ever since he met Yin Tao, Feng Jing seemed to smile a lot more.

Because of Feng Ye’s accident, the relationship between Feng Jing and his mother hadn’t been harmonious. Previously, it was because his mother blamed Feng Jing for Feng Ye’s accident. Later on, just when Feng Jing’s mother finally straightened out her mind, Feng Jing ignored his family’s objections and became a police officer. Moreover, he kept getting injured on the job.

Feng Jing’s mother was both heartbroken and angry. In a fit of anger, she threatened to disown Feng Jing unless he quit his job as a police officer. However, Feng Jing clearly didn’t give in to her demands, and thus they became more and more distant.

Therefore, ever since Feng Jing became a detective, he progressively smiled less. He would only smile when he occasionally went home to visit his grandfather. However, recently, Feng Jing started smiling more frequently when he was with Yin Tao. Perhaps he isn’t even aware of this.

When Feng Jing returned home, it was already after midnight. After washing up, Feng Jing locked the bedroom door as a habit and turned on the bedside lamp before lying on the bed.

Just as Feng Jing closed his eyes and was about to rest, Yin Tao’s smiling face suddenly appeared in his mind. He opened his eyes helplessly and shook his head forcefully. Feng Jing felt that he must have been too tired recently. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have let his imagination run wild. He was a few months older than Yin Hao. Feng Jing didn’t think he should be having any ideas about Yin Tao.

“I’m really getting old…” Feng Jing chuckled. Speaking of age, Feng Jing’s birthday was less than a month away.

Because of his grandfather’s request, Feng Jing had to go to his grandfather’s house every time he celebrated his birthday.

It seemed that he would have to take a few days off next month. Feng Jing didn’t know how his grandfather was going to nag him this time round. After this birthday, he would be one step closer to turning thirty.

Feng Jing tried his best to clear his mind and fell asleep slowly. It was less than four hours before dawn, but Feng Jing had a terrifying dream.

In his dream, Feng Jing seemed to have returned to his childhood, back to the day he was kidnapped.

Feng Jing couldn’t break free from the rope no matter how he tried. Moreover, the murderer had killed his closest brother right in front of his eyes.

Feng Jing cried and struggled, but he couldn’t stop the murderer. He watched as the sharp knife pierced into his unconscious brother’s chest.

Feng Jing wanted to scream, but he couldn’t make a sound. Just as blood was flowing out, his brother’s eyes suddenly opened, and his facial features gradually became blurry.

When Feng Jing saw it clearly again, Feng Ye’s face had turned into a girl’s. Feng Jing was very familiar with this face. However, this face that usually had a bright smile on it was now as pale as a dead person.

“Xiaotao!” Feng Jing suddenly woke up from his nightmare. He was panting, and his heart was beating exceptionally fast.

Feng Jing thought of the scene of Yin Tao’s tragic death in front of him and his heart tightened. He wiped the cold sweat off his forehead and looked at the time. He had only slept for three hours but he had such a terrifying dream.

“Looks like I have to strengthen Yin Tao’s training…” Although Feng Jing knew that it was just a nightmare, he still hoped that Yin Tao would be able to protect herself if she was ever in danger.

When Feng Jing was driving to the police station, Yin Tao was just getting out of bed in the dormitory. Looking at Bai Luo’s untouched bed, it seemed like she hadn’t returned all night.
