Chapter 224

February 11th, 2021, 17:50

Osaka prefecture, Honshu, Japan, the Chuo History Museum

Major Gwak Hyun-joon glanced over to the window to see the Japanese SWAT team and policemen’s movements. He checked his watch.

It was past 17:00 hours, but reinforcements had not arrived. Captain Kim Yoo-sung, the leader of Team 1 moved from cover to cover to approach the major and spoke.

“Commander! Shouldn’t we attempt to break through the enemy’s defenses on our own? It’s 17:10. If we wait any longer, the 36th mechanized infantry regiment under the Itami stationary force will arrive. Things could get more difficult.”

“We wait for 10 more minutes. If the reinforcements don’t arrive by then, we break through enemy lines and escape.”

“Do you think it will be possible? This really is awkward for us.”

Bang!

A gunshot rang across the area. Captain Kim Yoo-hyun shook before collapsing on the ground.

“Be careful! Snipers! Get down.”

Major Gwak Hyun-joon, pulled Captain Kim Yoo-hyun to cover and shouted. Everyone was in a dazed state, hand had let their guard down, causing them to be targeted by snipers.

“Are you all right?”

Major Gwak Hyun-joon, checked Captain Kim Yoo-hyun’s state.

“I am... fine, sir.”

Captain Kim Yoo-hyun touched his shoulder that was hit by the bullet and raised his upper body.

“They got me on the shoulder, sir.”

The M-24 SWS anti-personnel sniper rifle used 7.62mm NATO rounds (M24A2). The bullet had hit Captain Kim square on the shoulder, but thanks to the defensive capabilities of the protective suit, the bullet did not reach the captain’s body and ricocheted off.

“Had you been hit in the head, I shudder at the thought.”

Major Gwak Hyun-joon stroked his forehead and sighed in relief. Captain Kim Yoo-hyun lowered his head since he felt apologetic. He picked up his beret and placed it back on his head.

-Each team’s sniper force is to check for enemy snipers and retaliate.

When Major Gwak Hyun-joon’s order came through the entire communication line, each team’s explosives and sniper specialists all pulled out their equipment. The snipers armed themselves with the CS14 anti-personnel sniper laser rifle and set their scopes to the inverter mode. They carefully began to look for the enemy.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Pew~

When the sniper from the special forces showed their heads from their covers, the Japanese snipers pulled their triggers.

“Man, we’re trapped in here like rats, sir.”

Captain Kim Yoo-hyun seemed to have forgotten the fact that he had just been hit by a sniper rifle and began to crack jokes. However, Major Gwak Hyun-joon must have felt worried about the safety of his men, so he ordered the men to use equipment that cost over thousands of dollars.

-Deploy the C-105 scanner rounds.

-Yes, sir! Team 1 is deploying them now. The synchronization password is 20145-X1.

Sergeant First Class Oh Dong-gyu, a specialist in sniping and explosives, notified everyone through the communication line and pulled out the C-105 scanner rounds from his right pouch. Then he threw the round outside the museum with all his might. The sniper rounds continued to fly towards Sergeant Oh Dong-gyu.

Bang! Bang!

The C-105 rounds flew off to the outer area of the museum. After falling on the floor, the rounds rolled around for a few seconds. Then, when it gained its balance, a small explosion occurred from the top of the scanner round. Something flew up into the sky.

Boom~ Woosh~

The Japanese policemen’s lines were closing in on them. Since they thought that the object thrown by the Corean special forces was a grenade, they ran for cover. When they saw the object shoot up into the sky, they all froze and stared in awe.

The small object that had risen to the sky by 50m had scanned the area with a bio scanning light that could not be seen by the naked eye. The object had scanned for any signs of life within a 2km radius. The scanned information was sent to the monitor of every X-C01 console equipped on every special force’s left wrist.

-Each team’s snipers are to allot a target for each detected enemy sniper in a clockwise direction. Report back when the targets have been set.

-Team 1 has set targets 1 and 2, over.

-Team 2 has set targets 3 and 4, over.

-Team 3 has set targets 5 and 6, over.

-Team 4 has set targets 7 and 8, over.

-Team 5 has set targets 9 and 10, over.

-The remaining men are to fire first, then the snipers will take out the enemy snipers.

When Major Gwak Hyun-joon gave the order, his men all emerged from their covers and began to fire their laser rifles. The enemy had begun to fire back with their firearms as well. The SWAT team’s snipers on top of other buildings had also fired back as well.

-Take out the snipers.

The snipers had aimed their rifles at the enemy snipers and soon pulled the trigger when the major gave the order.

Pew~ Pew~ Pew~

The clear and vibrant sounds of the laser beams filled the air. The beams had taken out the faces of the snipers that had been firing at the special forces’ men. With a single attack, eight snipers from the SWAT teams were sent to the afterlife. A few of the snipers were hit twice and had their bodies and faces torn.

-Team 1 has neutralized every target.

-Team 2 has neutralized every target.

-Team 3 has neutralized every target.

-Team 4 has neutralized every target.

-Team 5 has neutralized every target.

-In 5 minutes, we leave the premises on our own. Team 5, secure our escape route, while Teams 1 and 2 will carry the artifacts while being escorted by Teams 3 and 4.

When each of the team leaders answered, the sound of automatic weapons firing filled the museum’s 1st-floor lobby. A barrage of bullets began to spray in the area.

Bang bang bang bang bang~ bang bang bang bang bang~

Bang bang bang bang bang~ bang bang bang bang bang~

The lobby’s ceiling, walls, and tables that the special forces were using as cover were torn apart by the bullets and sprayed shrapnel everywhere. The heavy engine noise of an armored vehicle shook the entire history museum.

The 1st company from the 36th mechanized infantry regiment had arrived with their LAV armored vehicle and began to spray 12.7mm rounds from the M-2 machine gun. The cavalry had arrived from the 3rd mechanized division under the central defensive force. Including the commanding armored vehicle, 38 armored vehicles had surrounded the entire museum.

-Sir! Breaking through head-on seems difficult.

-We should buy as much time as we can before reinforcements arrive and then attempt to break through.

The team leaders began to suggest their opinions through the communication line.

-Each team, move into the lobby and focus on our defenses. Team 3 will move first.

As the machine gun rounds flew around the entire area, the 1st company’s infantry aboard the light armored vehicles got off their vehicles and began to move into the history museum’s interior.

The special forces men who were in charge of heavy weaponry used their CS3 laser mini machine guns to prevent them from approaching any further. Dozens of white laser beams few towards the policemen and the soldiers.

Pew pew pew pew pew~

The SWAT teams who were approaching with bulletproof shields, all screamed in pain and fell. The laser beams had pierced through the shields, the bodies of the men holding them, and had even critically wounded the soldiers walking behind them.

When the enemy was taken aback for a second, Teams 3 and 4 took the stairs leading to the second floor. The other teams also walked back bit by bit while firing at the enemy. However, the Japanese soldiers had begun to use their Type 01 anti-armored vehicle missiles and launched them at the museum’s front entrance.

Woosh~ Woosh~ Boom~ Boooom

Three rounds of the Type 01 anti-armored vehicle missiles had flown into the entrance and lobby. From the explosion, shrapnel and flames engulfed the entire area, and smoke filled the entire lobby. However, the Corean special forces had not sustained heavy damages. Their shield glasses had allowed them to see through the thick smoke and set their eyes on the oncoming policemen and soldiers. From a different angle, the smoke rather helped them.

Pew~ pew~ pew pew pew pew~

From the smoke, dozens of laser beams began to fly out. The group of soldiers who had entered the lobby of the museum had all fallen. However, the retaliation of 500 or so SWAT team members and soldiers was no laughing matter. The SWAT team had hidden behind a wall and threw flashbangs at the lobby full of smoke.

Bang~ boom~

Multiple rounds of the flashbangs had gone off inside the lobby. The SWAT team and the soldiers all charged in. However, the Corean special forces, whom they had thought to be blinded by the flashbangs, were all accurately firing their weapons at their allies. The men had fallen to the floor after being hit.

Bang bang bang bang bang~ bang bang~

Pew~ pew~ pew~ pew~

The SWAT team and soldiers began to wildly fire their guns since they could not aim properly from the smoke. The tracer rounds flying around the area did make the scene seem oddly beautiful. The Corean special forces, who had been using their shield glasses, were able to see clearly through the smoke and had hit every single target. The Japanese soldiers knew they were at a disadvantage and threw a dozen M-67 hand grenades.

Boom~ Boom~

The repeated explosions had rung across the entire lobby. A few of the special forces’ men were hit by the shrapnel and fell. Despite being outnumbered and at a locational disadvantage, they picked up their fallen comrades and continued to fire back.

The current battle that the Corean special forces were fighting was not fit for them. The role of special forces’ men was to take a transport plane at a time of war and infiltrate the heart of the enemy. Then they were to assassinate, blow up and take over key areas. Such traditional battles were not how they fought. However, since the distance between them and the Japanese soldiers were closing in, they had begun to fight like regular infantry.

-Sir! Shouldn’t we give up the 1st floor and face them on the second floor instead?

Captain Shim Sang-won, the leader of Team 5, came on the radio.

-Team 3 and 4 will move to the second floor first. Then, Teams 1 and 2 will move as well. When they are in a position to defend the routes leading to the second floor, Team 5 will head there as well. Teams 3 and 4 go!

Teams 3 and 4, who had been carrying the numerous types of artifacts, all took the emergency stairs up to the second floor. When Teams 1 and 2 had moved up to the second floor, the Japanese SWAT teams and soldiered succeeded in moving into the lobby. There were now laser beams and bullets flying towards each other at a close range.

-Everyone is in position to hold off every route, sir.

-Team 5 move to the second floor.

-Team 5 confirmed.

The remaining 12 special forces from Team 5 had been the last line of defense, and now they began to head towards the upper floor.

That was when an ear-piercing explosion had caused some of the special forces men to go flying. The Japanese forces had launched a Type 01 anti-armored vehicle round at them. The power of the explosion had caused the men to go flying and many sustained injuries.

-Team 5, three men are down! Over.

-Is it severe? Over.

-Two are suffering from contusions and one has a broken arm.

-Send the injured men to the rear.

Major Gwak Hyun-joon bit his lower lip from the situation getting worse. One false move could lead to this place being him and his men’s grave. Suddenly, numerous explosions could be heard from outside.

Boom! Bang! Booom! Boom!

“Sergeant Kim! Check outside.”

“Yes, sir.”

Major Gwak Hyun-joon had ordered Sergeant Kim Un-soo, who had been keeping watch over the stairs. Sergeant Kim obeyed his commander’s orders and carefully glanced at the outside area of the building.

“It’s our allies, sir.”

Ten C-160 Hummers had moved towards the lobby of the history museum. The 8mm laser mini Vulcan guns were spraying laser beams at the Japanese SWAT teams and soldiers. The Hummers launched 40mm Black Dragon missiles at the light armored vehicles.

“Allies? Are they from the 61st paratrooper special forces?”

“Yes, sir. They are C-160 Hummers and they have a red crow drawn on them.”

“Red crows? They finally arrived.”

The 61st special forces had started from Honshu Hamada, and the 503rd company had ridden out from their ten C-160 Hummers. They were to join the special forces here at 17:00 and leave the area on the hummers. However, since the history museum was at the center of Osaka, they were a bit late on their arrival, and now had entered into battle against the enemy.
