Chapter 215

February 9th, 2021, 13:30

Seoul, Yongsan-ku, B2 bunker (ROK military joint command center)

The briefing about the American fleet’s movements was done by the morning’s end. After having lunch, Chairman Kang Ui-sik and other generals over the rank of lieutenant general gathered for another meeting. However, there was one major general who was in attendance. It was Major General Lee Hyun-won, the second-in-command of the special forces.

“How are the preparations going?”

Chairman Kang Ui-sik asked the other generals seated to his left.

“This morning, every special force that is to be deployed has arrived at the Sungnam and Kimpo Airports and standing by for orders, sir.”

General Kang Jung-hyun, the commander of the special forces, answered in a disciplined manner. After Corea was unified, the special forces command increased its number by five times by having North Korea’s 8th special forces merging into them. General Kang Jung-hyun was promoted to general from his original rank of lieutenant general. Major General Lee Hyun-won, who was second-in-command, was waiting to be promoted.

“Eight paratrooper special forces are waiting for your command, sir. Give us the order, we will handle any mission you give us.”

Major General Lee Hyun-won stood up from his seat and answered loudly as soon as General Kang Jung-hyun finished speaking. General Lee overly appealed his loyalty since he was from the North Korean military.

“Haha, Lieutenant General Lee please sit down,” Chairman Kang Ui-sik called Major General Lee Hyun-won by his soon-to-be promoted rank to raise his morale.

“Yes, sir. Give us the word anytime.”

The Joint Chief of Staff had received intelligence about the American satellite entering the nation’s airspace to conduct reconnaissance for the Corean navy’s marine forces. They had considered attacking the military satellite but decided not to, so they could avoid further conflict and escalation.

The Joint Chief of Staff had instead made the marines of the 10th amphibious fleet get off from their ships to fool the Americans into thinking that the mission had been canceled.

Instead, the paratrooper special forces moved stealthily late at night to the Sung-nam 15th special forces fighter wing and Kimpo Airport. The 15th special forces flight wing and Kimpo Airport housed transport planes that were painted over to seem like civilian planes, rather than military ones.

“I’m sure the transport planes are ready to go, correct?” Chairman Kang Ui-sik asked a question to the commander of the air force operations headquarters, Lieutenant General Kim Un-ho.

“Twenty-one KC-501 planes, thirty-two KC-502 planes, and sixteen KC-503 planes are all ready to take off while being painted over to look like civilian planes, sir,” Lieutenant General Kim Un-ho answered succinctly.

“Great work,” Chairman Kang Ui-sik also answered curtly and continued to speak while looking at the other generals.

“This operation will be conducted while we have the Americans fooled, so make sure to keep confidentiality in mind. As soon as the president gives us the order, we will carry out the operation.”

“When do you think the president will give us the order, sir?” Vice-chairman Choi Ho-il asked.

“I am not sure. It seems the NIS is working on something. I suppose all we could do is wait.”

“I see. I understand. I am ecstatic at the thought of catching the Japs and the Yanks unawares. Ha ha ha,” Vice-chairman Choi Ho-il smiled brightly like a child while speaking.

Tverskaya, Moscow, Russia

Five hours ago, road A106.

A black sedan was headed towards the Sheremetyevo International Airport from the St. Petersburg Hotel located at Tverskaya, Moscow. A black van was tailing them covertly.

“When should we strike, sir?” The Asian man driving the black van asked his superior seated on the passenger seat.

“Let’s take them out before they reach the E105 road 3km ahead of us! Speed up and flank them.”

“Yes, sir.”

“We move as planned without any hesitation. All right?”

“Yes, sir,” the three men in the van answered at once.

Vrooom.

When the driver stepped on the pedal, the van emitted black smoke from its tailpipe and shot forward.

“Move towards its side and keep going.”

The black sedan had changed lanes to make a turn. The black van tailing it had caught up and began to follow it from the lane next to it.

“Now!” The man seated on the passenger seat shouted to the driver.

He turned his handle to the right and crashed into the black sedan. The rear of the black van rammed into the left-hand side of the sedan.

Bang~ Screeee~

The two vehicles stopped at the shoulder after the crash.

The team leader, who was sitting at the passenger side seat, got off from the van and ran towards the passenger seat of the sedan while pretending to be surprised. Then, he apologized in Russian repeatedly while bowing his head.

“Who the hell are you guys? What were you thinking? Cutting in like that?”

Suddenly someone spoke in Japanese from the passenger seat. The team leader, who was pretending to be in shock and apologizing in Russian, suddenly pulled out a pistol from his breast pocket and pulled the trigger.

pew~ pew~pew~

The three men aboard the sedan became unconscious after shaking for a moment. The team leader, who had confirmed their state, signaled to the black van. Two men got off from the van and ran towards their superior. The team leader had pulled out a wallet from the unconscious man and checked his ID.

“Yagumachi Genzo.... I think this is him. Tie these men up, and follow me to the outside headquarters.”

“Yes, sir.”

The team leader glanced around his surroundings once more, then placed the ID and pistol back into his breast pocket. He got back on the van as if nothing had happened.

“Let’s go.”

The winter morning of Moscow at 8:00 am was a bit dark since the sun had not risen yet. The two men had pulled the unconscious driver and the passenger to the back seat of the van. They had bound, blindfolded, and gagged their abductees.

“Is everything ready, Chief Park?”

“Yes, we’re good to go.”

“All right! Let’s go.”

The two men were speaking Corean, not Russian. These were the NIS agents under the Russian branch. After the Corean-Chinese war, the intelligence war against Russia and Japan had been escalated. So many NIS teams were working in secret at numerous cities across Russia. When they found out that an agent from Japan’s prime minister cabinet had arrived in Moscow, they had tailed them for the past two days.

When the NIS agents found out that the Japanese man had met with President Putin, they reported the information to HQ immediately. NIS Secretary Na Bong-il gave the order to find out the goal of his visit even if it involved abducting the Japanese man. Therefore, the NIS agents had set a plan to nab Yagumachi Genzo before he was about to leave Moscow.

Tverskaya, Moscow, Russia. Some building

“Hey you, you’re finally awake?”

A man blowing cigarette smoke spoke to the Japanese man tied up on the chair.

It was team leader Kim Jin-joong, the man who had been leading the operation. The Japanese man finally woke up after five hours had passed, and began to speak incoherent Japanese due to the gag.

“Chief Park, take out the gag for him.”

“Yes, sir.”

Chief Park, a burly man who had been watching the scene from the back, walked up to the struggling man and took off his gag after smacking him on the back of the head. When the Japanese man was able to speak freely, he started to shout in Japanese.

“Who the hell are you? What are you doing? You idiots.”

“Yagumachi Genzo! That’s your name, right?”

The Japanese man, who had been screaming angrily, was full of shock when he heard Corean and stared at his captor.

“Why are you so surprised? We don’t have much time, so why don’t we cut to the chase?”

Team leader Kim Jin-joong spoke to Yagumachi Genzo in Japanese and placed the chair close to where Yagumachi Genzo’s was.

“Genzo! What did you talk about with President Putin of Russia? Don’t leave out anything and tell me everything! No matter how much you lie, we are bound to figure it out anyway. Don’t be stupid and let’s do this the easy way. Understand?”

“Don’t make me laugh! I didn’t meet with President Putin, and I am only here for personal business.”

“Hey, Yagumachi Genzo! We are all aware you are Abe’s bitch, all right? Do we need to force you to talk?”

“It’s the truth. I am here on personal-”

Smack!

Yagumachi Genzo’s face flung to the right, and speckles of blood trickled down.

“I told you we are short on time, didn’t I?”

Team leader Kim Jin-joong grabbed Yagumachi Genzo by the back of his head and threw a couple more punches.

Smack, smack, smack!

“Sto-stop! Please! Stop it, I’ll talk.”

Yagumachi Genzo pleaded with a scared look on his face.

“This is your last chance. Understand? What was the purpose of your visit?”

“To purchase Russian weapons...”

Smack!

Team leader Kim Jin-joong’s punch was so powerful that it caused the chair Yagumachi Genzo was tied up on to shake. The blow had caused Genzo to faint.

“Very well. Chief Ahn! Inject him with the serum.”

“Yes, sir.”

When the unknown serum was injected into Yagumachi Genzo, he slowly regained consciousness.

“Genzo, you’re awake?”

Yagumachi Genzo, who was now in a dazed state with his eyes half-open, glanced at the man calling him.

“I guess the drugs are working.”

Team leader Kim Jin-joong placed a chair in front of Yagumachi Genzo and showed him something. It was a vial the size of an adult’s index finger.

“So, this thing... This vial held the serum you have now pumping through your veins. It is called K-25B2 and it’s no joke! It will cause your brain matter to rot and put you in a vegetative state in 10 years at the latest.”

Team leader Kim shook the empty vial while speaking.

“And this is a vial that holds the cure. We are the only ones that have it.” He showed another vial he was holding in his left hand. A bright looking solution was inside it.

“Now, what are you gonna do? Will you tell us everything? Or die after suffering numerous diseases and becoming paralyzed? I won’t force you anymore. You decide.”

“Everything! I will tell you everything. Give me the cure...”
