Chapter 183

February 2nd, 2021, 00:30

Seoul Yongsan-ku, B2 bunker (ROK military joint command center)

Thanks to the interception operations conducted by the Poseidon mission control and the three-toed crow space fighter jet flight wing, the number of J-ONE missiles flying towards Corea decreased rapidly.

“One hundred forty-seven J-ONE tactical ballistic missiles have been successfully intercepted! The remaining 53 are in the process of being struck down! Two minutes before we reach the terminal phase.”

“Great! Have the Zeus 1 transition to intercepting the cruise missiles, and have the space fighter jet flight wing return to base! Have the Hades 1, 2, and 3 take care of the rest of them!”

“Yes, sir! Relaying the orders now.”

The CAMD system was successful in intercepting 100% of China’s large scale ballistic missile strikes, so it did not have any trouble going up against 200 ballistic missiles. However, since the number of cruise missiles was numbering up to 350 rounds, the Zeus 1 transitioned into intercepting those instead.

The Japanese cruise missiles that were flying towards the nation at subsonic speeds were mostly from Japan’s air force fighter wings or the surface-to-surface artillery forces. Also, there were a few cruise missiles headed towards the southern industrial complexes.

Corea and Japan were busy sending cruise and ballistic missiles towards each other with the Corean Sea between them. The determining factor for victory would be which nation had more forces equipped with superior radars, interception capabilities, and ballistic missiles.

However, there was something that Japan did not know. The space fighter jet known as the three-toed crow and the Zeus 1 satellite was in Corea’s possession. There was also the fact that Corea was on a different level in terms of the number of ballistic missiles owned and the capabilities of their radars.

To intercept the J-ONE ballistic missiles entering into the terminal phase, terrestrial defense satellites Hades 1, 2, and 3 began to reveal their S-LSM 600 Bident missiles from the ground. After the missiles moved out of their silos, the thrusters emitted blue flames, and the missiles shot up into the air. In the blink of an eye, the S-LSM 600 Bident missiles moved out of sight and flew towards each of its 53 targets at Mach 20 speed to reach 400 kilometers above the atmosphere.

Boom! Bang! Boooooom! Bang!

A clean hit! The Bident missiles all struck down Japan’s 53 ballistic missiles without failure. Only four types of cruise missiles left: the type-13A, 13B, and tomahawk blocks 3 and 4. However, these cruise missiles from Japan were all intercepted by the Zeus 1 satellite’s 50-millimeter high-powered laser beams being fired from its 36,000-kilometer geostationary orbit, and their numbers decreased drastically.

The 50 or so operators all conducted their tasks faithfully and continued to report on their progress. Ten large screens were all showing information in real-time while updating constantly. The main screen especially had orange dots representing the cruise missiles blinking and disappearing constantly to represent their interception, then a large number of them disappeared from the map altogether. Now, there were only 150 orange dots left.

Meanwhile, on screen 3, the status of Corea’s Scud C and Rodong missiles were on. Despite the surprise attack of the space fighter jets, some of Japan’s anti-air missiles survived and managed to intercept a few of the Scud C and Rodong missiles. However, 65 percent of the missiles hit their targets, and based on the satellite imaging, the scene seemed straight out of hell.

Most of the targets were the radar and anti-air artillery bases under Japan’s air force, but images of factory buildings and industrial areas showed up as well. There were corporate logos among the building debris. The most noticeable logos were Mitsubishi, Toshiba, Nissan, Panasonic, and other well-known Japanese corporations.

Tokyo, Japan, Prime Minister’s Cabinet Emergency Situation Center

Prime Minister Abe, who had phoned president Trump to request aid from America, finished his phone call and walked into the room. When he heard the reports, he fell in shock and stayed silent while sitting on the chair.

The Minister of National Defense and the joint commander, who had all been confidently boasting about the interception capabilities of the military, were now all silent after the unidentified attacks had struck across the nation and caused irreparable damage. The continued ballistic missile attacks were turning Japan into a living hell. When looking at the targeted areas of the Corean military, most of them were radar bases or fighter wings, but industrial complexes of large corporations that sustained their economy were hit as well.

What was worse was the fact that the damages caused by the cruise missiles making contact came pouring in constantly. To be precise, the reports had the center in an uproar. Soon, Prime Minister Abe’s head was ringing with only one thought in his mind.

“God d*mn it! I have invested as much capital as you have all requested, and this is what I get?? What have you all been doing this whole time??”

Prime Minister Abe screamed to express his anger. His shouts, however, were drowned out by the buzzing of the room. Prime Minister Abe laughed and quietly left the room.

The military commanders had heard Prime Minister Abe’s cry of despair. However, since the situation was dire, they were busy giving orders left and right, so they pretended not to have heard it and focused on taking command.

Prime Minister Abe walked into his office and lit a cigarette after putting it in his mouth. Then he reminisced about his visit to America a month ago.

“That b*stard Trump, he is as sly as a fox! He said America would take our nation’s side and now they want to back out? The same goes for the USSC b*stards! They only know how to sell weapons. They have no shred of honor, those b*stards...” he thought.

The long drag the prime minister took from the cigarette made him cough. Since he had not smoked in a long time, the smoke felt even more vile than usual and made him feel nauseous.

“Even if the smoke is disgusting, could it be worse than what’s happening now?”

Prime Minister Abe took an even longer drag while coughing. Then, after 20 minutes or so, someone entered the room after knocking on the door.

“Sir! The first round of strikes is over.”

Minister Shibasaki spoke quietly after entering the office.

“I am exhausted, so you take the lead, Minister Shibasaki.”

“Yes, sir. I will give you a more detailed report of the day’s battle tomorrow.”

Minister Shibasaki bowed his head and then left the room.

Corea

After President Suh Hyun-Woo’s address this morning, many discharged young veterans who had served their mandatory service had already stormed the military human resources center to re-enlist. There were crowds on the street all in support of the war as well. The support for this war by the nation’s citizens was higher than the war against China. Many homes must have been watching the news broadcasts of the war that started at midnight, since most of the apartment complexes and homes were brightly lit.

The CTV news, a professional news channel, reported the good news of the Corean military intercepting 100 percent of the enemy missiles and how each nation had launched a large number of ballistic and cruise missiles at each other. The news channel also showed images of the debris of the buildings and the flame-engulfed landscape across Japan after they were struck by Corea’s missiles.

“Those Japanese b*stards were taught a lesson! My! My! If only I was ten years younger, I would enlist for the war again!” said a man in his forties while looking at the news on TV. His child, who seemed to be an elementary school student, spoke to the father while looking at him.

“Dad, which branch of the military did you serve in?”

“I was in the special forces! The elite!”

“Wow! Cool. Which force is that?”

When his son became wide-eyed and impressed, the woman in her forties sitting next to him spoke.

“Son! Your father served in the civil defense forces.”

“Civil defense forces? What’s that?”

“That’s the special forces. The civil defense unit. You remember the defenders of the planet from your cartoons?”

“Ah! Right! The defenders of the Earth, Flashman!”

The man in his forties patted his son on the head and smiled contentedly.

“Oh dear, son, it’s time for bed. It’s late, right? So you should stop watching TV and go to bed too, dear. You need to go to work, too.”

“I’ll go after I finish watching the news. Good night, son!”

Seoul Yongsan-ku, B2 bunker (ROK military joint command center)

Two hours had passed since the war began, but to explain things in boxing terms, both sides had been throwing punches blindly without sizing up their opponent. However, Corea had weaved in and out to dodge the oncoming punches from the opponent. Japan, on the other hand, had allowed too many counter punches and was beaten to a pulp. Based on round one, Corea was victorious. After finishing up the first round, both sides were taking a break in a dazed state.

“The first wave of attacks seems to be a success, Chairman Kang, sir!” the operations director said while looking at the documents outlining the damage Japan had sustained.

“What’s the status of the Japanese fleet’s movements?”

“They are maintaining their position along the eastern shoreline and staying still, sir.”

“All right! Based on the geographical nature of Japan, things will now transition into a naval battle and boring missile attacks. So, have the navy’s command headquarters keep a close eye on the Japanese fleet’s movements and respond actively.”

“Yes, sir.”

“What about Russia’s movements?”

“Nothing has changed so far, sir.”

“Even if the Ministry of Defense pursues peaceful diplomacy, we never know when they may strike! The defensive forces are not to lower their guard and to keep watch 24 hours a day vigilantly. Don’t let even a single ant pass by without reporting to us.”

“Yes, understood, sir!”

Chairman Kang Ui-Sik seemed to be concerned and repeated the orders the commanders already knew by heart.

“Comrade chairman! We have the Daepodong and Daepodong 2 missiles in our tactical missile forces, don’t we? Shouldn’t we use those to erase Tokyo, where Abe resides, off the map?”

“Haha, Vice-Chairman Choi Ho-il! We have only started our attack.”

Japan Tokyo’s Chiyoda County, Yasukuni Shrine

The Yasukuni shrine was one of the main targets for the first wave of missile attacks. Ten rounds of Rodong missiles with a range of 1,300 kilometers and five rounds of Hyun-mu type 3E2-B type hypersonic cruise missiles were launched to the area to penetrate the Tokyo anti-air net.

It would seem like a waste to launch ten ballistic missiles and five cruise missiles, but it was the request of the president. The president had ordered to make sure the shrine was destroyed since it was the representation of Japan’s dream of returning to its imperial age while paying homage to the war criminals who had used millions of Asian lives to carry out their wicked dreams.

Tokyo’s anti-air defensive capabilities were superior to fit its reputation as Japan’s capital. Also, the Kongo aegis destroyers managed to successfully intercept the Epirus missiles targeting the five radar bases. The Rodong missiles that flew towards Tokyo were also intercepted after being successfully detected. However, the Tokyo anti-air net only managed to intercept three out of five Hyun-mu 3E-2B type missiles that weaved in and out. The remaining two Hyun-mu missiles hit their target the Yasukuni shrine with an error of one meter.

Boom— Bang—

With a loud explosive sound, flames dozens of meters high rose in downtown Tokyo.

The warhead of the Hyun-mu 3E2-B type cruise missiles were plasma cluster bombs that could cover the entire targeted area with a ball of flames. The buildings in the area all melted from the heat and explosion’s blast, then vanished without a trace.

An hour had passed since the explosion, but the flames were still dancing around, and numerous fire trucks and firefighters were doing everything they could to douse the flames.

With this, the Yasukuni shrine that was used as a place to honor the war criminals from the second world war was wiped off the face of the Earth.
